Denise Gates Obituary

Denise, Age 62, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2017. She was a resident of the Pikes Peak region most of her life, spending many of the more recent years in Penrose, Colorado.

Denise was born on March 20, 1955 to Gene and DeAaeon Hamann in Ft. Worth, Texas. On July 25, 1978 she married Tom Gates in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Denise loved flowers and working with children. She never failed to say "Hello" to her neighbors and made a point to wave to folks she had yet to meet. After putting herself through college at UCCS she gave her time and love to the children at Penrose Elementary in Penrose, Colorado.

Denise is survived by her loving family including her husband, Tom; her children, Kyle and Christina; her devoted father, Gene and his wife Bonnie; and the best sisters she could ask for, Laurel and Sonja. Unfortunately, she was preceded in passing by her younger sister, Julie, and her mother, DeAaeon.

A memorial service will be held for Denise at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel, 1730 East Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80910.

In lieu of flowers please send memorials to The Lupus Foundation of America via their website, Lupus.org

Oh, Denise! This makes my heart so sad. I have so many fond memories of you! You were the sweetest sister to your sibs. I remember walking with you and Marty all the way home up the pass in the creek from the school the last day of 8th grade. Going with Mr. and Mrs. Clifford up to Leadville? Or was it Buena Vista? for the C squad basketball game on Valentine's Day. Your cool dormer cubby bedroom in GMF. How proud and impressed I was that my buddy, Denise, could beat any guy in the class arm wrestling! I can't believe you're gone. But the legacy of love and care I'm sure you left behind with your kids and Tom and everyone who knew you will live warmly on in hearts and memories, as it will in mine. Rest in well deserved peace.

Denise will be so very missed by all who loved and knew her. I will always remember her as the big sister of the Hamann family, always protective and caring of her other sisters. May God wrap His arms around your family as you walk through this together.

Denise, you were a wonderful neighbor and friend to the Couch Family. You made us feel welcome when we first moved onto the property and always brought goodies to our house during the Christmas Holiday.
