Dorothy Gramer Obituary

Dorothy C. Gramer -- widely cherished for her kindness, intelligence, courage, good humor and unconventional ways -- passed away peacefully early Saturday morning at the Namaste Alzheimer Center in Colorado Springs. She was 79. A local native, Dorothy grew up in depression-era Manitou Springs and learned early on to be imaginative, resourceful and strong. She married the late Robert Gramer, and with him raised two children who were ever her pride and joy. Her generosity was boundless. Those she helped and inspired are beyond counting. Dorothy was a professional caregiver and astrologer, ever true to her convictions, and lived her life according to what she termed "the magical way." She was a Phi Beta Kappa, an incurable optimist, a lover of books and movies. In addition to Colorado, she made a home at various times in California, Arizona and Oregon. Dorothy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Mitch Grise, of Colorado Springs; her son and his partner, Joseph Gramer and Sarah Rohrs, of El Cerrito, California; her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Kathy Thompson, of Saint George, Utah; grandchildren: Joy, James and Brian; nephews: James, Robert and Jeffrey; and niece, Karen. She was predeceased by her parents; elder brother, George; and former husband, Robert. In lieu of memorial gifts, goodwill offerings may be made to the Namaste Alzheimer Center, or to the national Alzheimer's Association.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.
Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you. Even though I have never met your mother Miss Sue I know she was wonderful because she made you..

Out of all the things passed down to me, I believe my sense of wonder came from my grandmother. I loved her very much, and she will be missed.
