Major General Warren Carroll Moore USAF (Ret.) passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026, with his wife at his side.
Warren Moore was born on February 16, 1928, in
San Antonio, Texas, to Marva Odessa (Shoemaker) Moore and Carroll Milner Moore. He spent his early years in San Antonio and El Paso, Texas and attended the University of Texas at Austin until he joined the Army/Air Force. He later earned a bachelor's degree in Architecture from the University of Maryland and a Master of Business Administration from Auburn University and was a distinguished graduate of the Air War College.
General Moore began his military career at Luke Air Force base in Glendale AZ, where he flew the F-84 Thunderjet, after receiving his pilot wings in 1952 at Webb Air Force Base. He went on to serve his country with distinction during times of war and peace. His combat service included assignments in Korea in 1953 and in Vietnam in 1967, where he flew more than 100 combat missions over North Vietnam and 29 missions within South Vietnam.
Throughout his career, General Moore held numerous leadership positions. He commanded the 82nd Flying Training Wing at Williams Air Force Base, Arizona, and later led Officer Training School at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, while also serving as vice commander of the Air Force Military Training Center. He subsequently commanded the Lowry Technical Training Center in Denver, Colorado, and later the United States Logistics Group in Ankara, Turkey. He concluded his military service in 1981, as vice commander in chief of Aerospace Defense Command in
Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Following his retirement from the Air Force, General Moore embarked on a successful civilian career. He served as a special consultant with Aerojet Electro Systems before transitioning into the banking industry, where he ultimately retired as Senior Vice President of Marketing and Human Resources at J.P. Morgan Chase Bank, holding company in Denver.
General Moore was deeply committed to civic and community service. His many contributions included serving as a board member of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, a board member of Goodwill Industries, a member of the Colorado Springs Airport Planning Commission and involvement with the Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce for Military Affairs, the USAF Falcon Foundation, and the Kiwanis Club of Monument. He was also an avid golfer, gourmet chef and accomplished watercolor artist.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Don Moore. He is survived by his wife, Claudia Peterson Moore; children: Marva Catherine Duncan (Rick), Warren Carroll Moore Jr., Cynthia Kelley Moore, Tracey May Polson (Dave), and Tricia Lynn Hakamaa (Marko); grandchildren: Amelia Moore, John Moore (Rachel), Makena Polson, and Keegan Polson; and great-grandchild: Camille Moore.
The inurnment will be held at Pikes Peak National Cemetery on May 28 at 1 p.m., followed by a memorial service at The Church at Woodmoor at 3 p.m.
