Doug Shields

September 3, 1954

February 15, 2022

Our rock and brightest light, Doug Shields, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at the age of 67. He was born September 3, 1954 to Genelda and Hamilton Shields in Indianapolis, Indiana. At the age of 5 he moved to the Westside of Colorado Springs, CO and that is where he spent the rest of his life creating a beautiful life for his wife and family.

Doug was a successful Plant Manager in the Precision Sheet Metal business where he retired from in 2020. He worked at RBM Precision Metals for 20 years before moving on to work at other companies in the industry.

Doug married the love of his life, Paula (Mullane) Shields, on September 22nd, 1984 and they share two daughters Maddie Shields and Molly Ackerman. He was the proudest "grumpa" to his grandkids.

His favorite past times included playing basketball at Whittier elementary, playing intramural sports with his buddies, coaching his daughters' sports teams, spending his summers sitting in "his corner" at the Valley Swim Club listening to his favorite music while catching rays, watching the Denver Broncos win the Super Bowl, the Boston Red Sox win the World Series but most of all being with his wife, his daughters and their families.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, Hamilton Shields; mother, Genelda (Gibson) Shields; and his mother-in-law, Kate Mullane. He is survived by his wife, Paula (Mullane) Shields; daughters Maddie Shields (Ryan Czajkowski) and Molly (Lance) Ackerman; his 3 boisterous grandchildren, Maeson and Baker Czajkowski and Presley Ackerman; his sisters, Lori Curry and Janet Graham; and numerous extended family and friends.

Our family thanks you for the outpouring of love and support to us at this time. A memorial service will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Friday, March 4th at 10am.

Paula,
I'm sorry for the loss of your husband and my good friend. I have been praying for your comfort and strength since I heard of Doug's passing.
I remember "Hoosier" from soon after the time he moved to the westside. We went to school together (Whittier, West, 1 year at Palmer, then graduating from Coronado). At Coronado, he was yearbook sports editor, and I was newspaper sports editor. We played a lot of basketball together (especially at Whittier) as well as softball and football. Lots of fun. I'm sorry that I lost contact with him after high school. He was a good friend.
Again, I am sorry for your loss.
