Dow Finsterwald Obituary

I hope some of the family sees this. I was unaware of Dow´s passing until today.
I was with the Golf Channel from its founding as Vice President of Information Technology. I was a member of Bay Hill for fifteen years. During that time I had the privilege of getting to know Dow. I played in the Shootout with him many times.
I loved playing or just being around him. I always admired his dedication to golf and his willingness to help others play better. He helped me many times, especially with my short game.
I left Bay Hill in 2010 and moved back to my home in Oneonta, Alabama. I haven´t seen Dow since then.
I feel sure that Dow had a good life. It´s sad to think of him gone but I think we all can find comfort in the fact that he was loved and respected by lots of people.
I offer my sincere condolences.

You will be remembered in the golfing world.

I had the pleasure to meet with Mr. Finsterwald on two occasions some 30 years part at his beloved Broadmoor Golf Club.
The time difference in those meetings validated his lifelong reputation as a gentleman and his graciousness.

What an amazing man. I had the opportunity to play 18 with him at Shinnecock in the late 90s. What a pleasure. I think he was 70 then and shot 73. He was so nice and a caring individual. That will always be my greatest golf memory. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

To Jane and your family, my condolences. I recall when you were in my classes here at UW ere long ago. I see that you are an accomplished Mountain Bike competitor now.

I was so sorry to hear of Dow's passing. My Father always spoke very kindly of him and enjoyed their friendship on and off the golf course. I know he met Dow at the gate with a smile. Godspeed.

It was an honor to be at your side sir as your caddie and friend for many years. You taught me lessons on the golf course and in life, following in your footsteps. All but very few can touch the lives of others, I am that one who is externally grateful for above all, your friendship. Since April i1957 where he was the keynote speaker at the new England he often joked about that what a powerful memory he had.when paired with him you would never know what a great player he was and I was very elated and excited to have been paired with this outstanding player and again a gentleman sincerely

The Kerrs are Happy/Sad. Regards to you all. No matter where u were or who you were with Dow would greet you, welcome you, and ask about you, your family and your game and smile at the love of people and The GAME. Now he is back with Linda, Arnie, River, parents and other family and friends. Hear that? Think he got another HOLE IN ONE!!!

Dow was one of the finest gentlemen you will meet. He personified Professional golf at its highest level. Dow and his contemporaries in the Colorado Section (almost all of them in the Colorado golf Hall of Fame) established the highbar for promoting the game, representing the game for all of its values and especially helping to promote golf in Colorado. We should all aspire to reach for higher levels as he did to accomplish our goals of growing the game we love!

My dad and Dow´s officiated together and our families and Dow´s were lifelong friends. All Bobcats and Betas. Dow was the ultimate gentleman and professional. I will miss our brief visits with this very special man. He lived at Bay Hill and in Colorado Springs but I believe his heart was always in Athens, Ohio.

I remember meeting Mr. Finsterwald for the first time. He was so gracious and helpful and gave me a lot of his time. My uncle worked under him at the Broadmoor for years and my uncle always had extremely nice things to say about his time working under Dow and had many fantastic stories. He will be greatly missed!

from the family of Frank B. Gullum, I. As the grandson, my/our memory of Dow Finsterwald was his and Dan Galbraith's coming to Athens for my grandfather's funeral in 1964. The realization that my grandfather was something more than just a grandfather, left a lasting memory. Thanks, Dow. Rest in Peace!
