Elizabeth Clemans Obituary

February 21, 1926 - January 3, 2008. Elizabeth Marie (Betty) Clemans passed to shores beyond our sight on January 3rd, 2008. She was a resident of Monument, Colorado for 31 years. Elizabeth was born February 21, 1926 to her parents, Marie (Saylor) Cole and Roy Cole, in El Dorado, Kansas. El Dorado was her home until attending the School of Nursing at Kansas University. She joined the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps. and graduated with a degree in nursing in 1946. Her career included serving at the KU Medical Center, a psychiatric nurse at Winter General VA Hospital in Topeka, Kansas, and a school nurse in Hays, Kansas. She was preceded in her departure by her parents and her two brothers, Edward Cole and Roy (Bud) Cole. In 1950, Elizabeth married James W. Clemans, her surviving husband of 57 years. She is survived by their three children: Daniel Clemans and his wife Ann of Sherwood, Arkansas, Melinda Abbott of Palmer Lake, Colorado, and Thomas Clemans and his wife Teresa of Colorado Springs, Colorado. She is also survived by granddaughter, Kaitlyn Grigsby, and step-grandchildren, Neika and Trevor Rosenberger. Elizabeth was a member of the Monument Community Presbyterian Church, Monument Homemakers, and the Monument Library's Socrates Café Group and Senior Chat Room. After moving to Monument 31 years ago, and after her last child graduated from college, Elizabeth used her skills as an RN by looking after other members in the community. She provided transportation to members for doctor's office visits, Senior Meals, trips to the grocery store or just a drive in the country. She volunteered at the Palmer Lake Library and the Tri-Lakes Chamber of Commerce. With the help of the then Superintendent of Schools, Ted Bauman, she arranged computer classes for senior citizens. Elizabeth was awarded the Certificate of Excellence by the Monument Hill Sertoma Club in October, 2007 for outstanding contributions to the local community. These are just a few of the things that made for a long and fulfilling life, together with her loving family and many friends. And she loved all creatures…great and small. Service will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at 11:00 am at Monument Community Presbyterian Church, 238 Third Street, Monument, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Pikes Peak Humane Society, 610 Abbott Lane, Colorado Springs, CO 80905.

Jim and family:
I just loved Betty. I met her before I ever attended MCPC and was immediately drawn to her spunky personality and giving involvement in the Tri-Lakes community. Plus she was my "Kansas Girl" who I enjoyed talking to about KU and Kansas. I will truly miss her and my thought and prayers go out to you and your family. Beth

My deepest sympathy to all the family. I so enjoyed my visit with Betty last summer when we were able to sit down and remember all our family and the fun times we had together when we were kids. We reminded each other of the things that we did when we shared times at Grandmas and of the times she would dare me to do something and I would do it just to show her I could. Chuck and I enjoyed our visit with you and it will remain one of our fondest memories. I can see her now racing around Heaven taking care of someone or one of her pets that crossed the Rainbow Bridge before her.
