Elizabeth Rogers Obituary

Rogers
Elizabeth "Betty" Ann (Rice) Rogers
December 30, 1925 - April 15, 2018
Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Rogers of Black Forest, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, April 15, 2018. She was 92.
Betty was born to Agnes and Richard Rice on Dec. 30, 1925 in Haverhill, Mass. Betty was the youngest of seven children; sisters, Mary, Jane and Kay and brothers, Richard, Herbert and Edward.
On July 18, 1948, Betty married Charles (Charlie) Savory Rogers in Haverhill. The couple met in grade school, developing a love that resulted in marriage when Charlie was discharged from the United States Navy. The couple had four children, and moved to Colorado Springs on January 1, 1962, moving to Black Forest on July 4, 1962. They lived in the same Black Forest home until her death.
Betty and Charlie were active in assisting and following their children's education, athletics and religious lives. In the early 1960s, the couple was involved in establishing a Catholic church in Black Forest. From a modestly attended 'mission church', Our Lady of the Pines has grown into a regional parish for hundreds of families. They also enjoyed Ballroom Dancing, were members of the Broadmoor Waltz Club and spent Sunday nights dancing at the Tavern. For several years, they enjoyed camping and gold mining on the South Platte River near Lake George. They also participated in area bowling leagues for several years. During their first year in Colorado Springs, the family became patients of Dr. Jamieson Kennedy, an association that developed into a friendship as well as family health care that lasted over 55 years.
Betty graduated from Haverhill High School, and earned an Associates Degree in Food Management from Pikes Peak Community College in 1980. She was a life-long advocate of education and maintained her devotion to current events throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles (April, 2013); son, Timothy (September, 2004); mother and father, and her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Claire (Chris) of Eagle; her sons, Thomas (Theresa) of St. Louis, Mo., and Peter (Lauri) of North Platte, Neb.; grandchildren, Elizabeth (George), Catherine, John, Patrick, Matthew, Mary, Rachel and Jennifer; and great-grandchildren, Caroline, George and Addison. In addition she is survived by a number of nieces and nephews; including a close relationship with Kathleen Rice Kern of Colorado Springs, and Mary Ann Mountcastle of Smith Mountain Lake, Vir.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial, Sat., April 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Pines in Black Forest.
