Elroy Guenther Obituary

Entered life in Alexandria, Minnesota on July 16, 1930 and left this world January 10, 2011. He was born to parents Theodore and Esther Guenther (who preceded him in death). He worked on the family farm until he joined the Air Force in 1950. While stationed in Newmarket, England, he met and married Margaret Gray in 1953. After 26 years of service, Elroy retired from the Air Force in 1976 as a Master Sergeant in Procurement. In 1981 he joined the USPS as a Postal Carrier. After 24 years of service, he retired in 2004. Then, he loved being an avid great grandpa. He enjoyed tinkering around the house doing odd projects, going on cruises with Margaret and doting on his grand and great grand kids. He was an active life member of TREA, enjoyed pinochle with friends twice a week and monthly breakfasts at the Retired Postal Carriers Association. He loved to play cards with best friends Pat and Pete Buist. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret Gray Guenther, son Dale (Marcia), daughter Kim Roy (Barb), four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one on the way. Elroy is survived by his brother Clinton (Kay) of NC and Kenneth (Margaret deceased), MaryAnn (Tony) of Minnesota, David (Diane) of Wisconsin and preceded in death by Marvin. We want to thank the paramedics and police who were so kind. How can we ever thank our family enough, including Pat and Pete? Memorial services will be held Friday at 10:30 at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd. Reception will follow at The Retired Enlisted Association, 834 Emory Circle. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Dearest Margaret & Family: My heart is so sad today as I send my sincere condolences to you all. Elroy was a dear friend to me, especially at the Friday night pinochle tournaments. I shall miss his teasing. I pray that our dear Lord gives you the strength to get through this grieving period. Stay strong; keep the faith and treasure all those wonderful memories from the past.

Guenther was a great guy to work with. We miss him a lot at the post office. He was always good to talk to when I needed advice about the job.
