Eve Buchanan Obituary

Eve Espinosa Buchanan, 88, of Colorado Springs, died Thursday, May 18, 2017. She decided to go to Heaven and apologize to two younger brothers, Del and Henry, whose hair she pulled as children and who blamed her for their early onset baldness. She leaves behind her brother Reuben, also balding, who doesn't seem to hold a grudge.

She also leaves behind seven children:

Kathy (her favorite), inherited her sense of style. Rebecca (honestly, her favorite), inherited her green thumb. Doug (probable favorite), inherited her optimism. Rob (maybe a favorite), inherited her love of bacon and green chili. Jean (most likely favorite), inherited her peacemaking abilities. Greg (total favorite), inherited her faith. Andrea (obvious favorite), inherited a bit of her artistic talent.

She had six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a whole mess of cousins, nieces, nephews and all of THEIR offspring who are also sad to see her go.

Add to that neighbors, friends and random others she hugged.

As an LPN, she wore her nurse's cap long after it was fashionable to do so. Because of course she did.

As president of Colorado Springs Art Guild for more than a decade, she terrorized members of the community into making donations, volunteering and generally supporting local art.

For many years, she served as a Proclaimer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, occasionally pinch-hitting as God's waiter/wine steward. She also lurked around the edges of Divine Redeemer and was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral.

Any gifts made in her honor should go to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Colorado or the rebel sisters at Benet Hill Monastery (her real favorites).

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2017, at Benet Hill Monastery, 3190 Benet Lane. Do NOT wear black. Bright colors and prints only.

I have so many good memories of sharing art experiences with Eve. Meetings, workshops, and exhibitions were always enhanced by her love for art. I, along with countless artists, will miss Eve and her many contributions to the art world.

I always remember "The Mom" as Rebecca always referred to her when we worked together, being the most lovable soft spoken woman I have ever met. She always made us smile when we saw her and I know her family and friends adored her. Our deepest condolences to Eve's family, she will never be forgotten.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.

Eve, Your beautiful, witty, and most compassionate personality is already so missed! We loved being your back-door neighbor for so long, and every time we saw you - you were smiling. It brought smiles to our faces, and to our families faces. What a gift you are! We miss you, and know Heaven became even brighter with your beautiful presence. Thank you for blessing us - just by being you. We will miss you, till we can smile together again. Love from all of us at the Ronald McDonald House
