Evelyn Swan Obituary

Evelyn Frances (Trainor) Swan passed away on July 1, 2008 in Colorado Springs. She was born on December 30, 1916 on a cattle ranch near Ordway Colorado to Matilda Jane (Bouldin) and Daniel Birten Trainor. Evelyn and her brothers lived at the Sacred Heart Orphanage in Pueblo, while their mother attended the Seton School of Nursing. Evelyn attended Colorado Springs Central High School, and Seton School of Nursing receiving a Registered Nurse certificate in 1940. She worked at AirCraft Mechanics and Camp Carson. During World War II Evelyn served as a Lieutenant LTJG in the US Navy where she met Glenn P. Swan, a Navy Corpsman. They were married on March 2, 1946 at Old St. Mary's Church in San Francisco and had four children, Mark, Glenn W., Patrick, and Judy. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Glenn and Evelyn lived in Oklahoma for several years, farming and ranching. In 1956, they moved to Colorado Springs. As an accomplished artist Evelyn served as President of the Colorado Springs Art Guild, was a member of the National League of American Pen Women and the Watercolorists of America Society. Her paintings won "best of show" honors in several art shows across the state. Evelyn was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Birten; mother, Matilda Jane; brothers Orville and Norman Trainor. She is survived by her husband, Glenn P. Swan; and children Mark & Lynn Swan, Glenn & Mary Swan, Patrick & Tomey Swan, and Judith & Dan Cox. Evelyn enjoyed her seven grand children, nine great grand children and many nephews, nieces and cousins. Evelyn was active in Sacred Heart Church, the Oblate Guild and the Altar & Rosary Society. Evelyn will always be remembered for her dedication to her family and friends and her faithfulness to her country, God and the Church. A Rosary service will be held at 5pm on Sunday, July 6, 2008. A Funeral service is scheduled for 10:30am on Monday, July 7, 2008, both at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2022 West Colorado Ave, Colorado Springs, CO.
