Forrest Theriot Obituary

THERIOT-Forrest Owen Theriot, 84, passed away on February 1, 2006 from complications following a stroke on December 20th. He was born in Los Angeles on June 27, 1921 to Alice and Terrance Therio t, survived by his loving wife Marjorie, brother Richard of Nipomo, CA, and children Warren and Diane. He grew up in Tujunga, graduated from Verdugo Hills High School in 1940, worked at Consolidated Aircraft in San Diego until he was inducted into the Army, serving from June 3, 1944 until October 30, 1946. With duty in Italy, he spent time in Naples, Rome and Florence, enrolling in the Army University Program learning about the great masters of art and architecture. After WWII he was accepted into the 4 yea r Industrial Design Program at the prestigious Chouinard Art Institute, which later became Disney's Cal-Arts. In his career he worked for many of the largest architectural firms and design studios, including Welton Beckett, Charles Luckman, and Cannell and Chafin, projects included furniture and interior design, large office buildings, department stores, and themes for the Anaheim Disneyland. Influenced by the icons of Frank Lloyd Wright, Rudolph Schindler and Richard Neutra, Forrest designed and built thei r home in the hills of Laurel Canyon, using rooftop solar panels and radiant heating in the floors. He also built some of the original furniture, cabinets, tables, chairs and lamps. He was a talented watercolorist, but also did oils and numerous pen and ink sketches. Forrest was married to Marjorie Herbert, a former U.S. Navy W.A.V.E. They had three children, Warren, Diane and Roger, five grandchildren, and two great-grandsons. A memorial service will be held at the home of Steve and Diane Horwitz on Saturd ay, February 18, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Forrest Theriot Memorial Fund, Little Landers Historical Society, Bolton Hall Museum P.O. Box 203, Tujunga, CA 91043-0203. Private interment will be at Glendale Forest Lawn.
