Known to her friends and family as "Trudie", Gertrude Helen Martha Moersfelder Preiss died peacefully in her home at the Bridge Assisted Living facility on December 9, 2022, just two years shy of her 100th birthday.
Trudie was born and raised in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area, where she graduated from Lutheran High School in 1942. She met her husband, Robert Carl Preiss, in Milwaukee and they were married on Memorial Day weekend in 1946. Trudie and Bob had celebrated sixty years of marriage at the time of his death in 2006.
Trudie has been a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado for seventy years. She was a proud Army wife, raising six children with Bob while traveling frequently during his military career. They were stationed in the Philippines, Japan, Italy, Germany, and stateside in many locations, including Fort Carson, Colorado until his retirement from the Armed Forces in 1968.
She is survived by her six children, Dawn (Daniel) Harries, Cyndy (Jeff) Kulp, Jennifer (Keith) Lorensen Robert R. (Luann) Preiss, Lori (Steve) Trivelli, and Jonathan Preiss; her twelve grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren, living in Wichita, Kansas, Omaha, Nebraska, Richmond, Virginia, and throughout Colorado in Glenwood Springs, Pueblo, Denver, Monument, and Colorado Springs.
