Glenn Zimmer Obituary

Dr. Glenn Henry Zimmer passed away at home in Golden, CO, on December 9, 2016, with his wife of 56 years, Barbara Anne Zimmer, and his family by his side. Glenn was born on May 7, 1926, the son of Dr. Earl H. and Ruth E. Zimmer. He is survived by his wife, daughter Lisa Hatch (Scott), son Eric (Elizabeth Faulhaber), and four grandchildren, Zachary and Zoe Hatch and Henry and Fenris Zimmer.

Glenn grew up in Colorado Springs with his brother Bob and attended Cheyenne Mountain schools and Colorado College. He graduated from Northwestern University and received a post graduate degree in orthodontics from the University of Washington. He married Barbara on August 6, 1960, in Colorado Springs, where he lived until 1993 when they moved to Larkspur, CO. He was a master gardener, an honorary

member of the Rotary Club of Colorado Springs, and an

enthusiastic contributor to the Winter Night Club, the Colorado Duck Club, the Episcopal Church, the National Ski Patrol, and many professional organizations. Whether he was ringing bells for the Salvation Army or fixing the perfect

espresso with frothy milk for guests, Glenn had a gift for

serving others with joy.

An avid outdoorsman, Glenn enjoyed yodeling on the slopes, ascending Colorado's highest elevations, and fishing in remote mountain lakes in the company of friends and family, but he was equally content challenging his children and grandchildren to a game of backgammon or cribbage, entertaining neighbors, and conversing with his patients. His warm smile, cheerful whistle, and unconditional acceptance brightened the lives of all who had the honor to know him: his buddies, colleagues, patients, and especially his family to whom he was a loving husband, father, and grandad. "And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love"

(1Cor 13:13). Glenn's legacy lives on in the love he extended to all. Memorial gifts may be made to smiletrain.org.

Lisa, I will never forget our fathers' special lifelong friendship (the "Bears"!). I have many fond memories of Dr. Zimmer, including: braces 3 times, Easter Egg hunts at our house when we were little with you all in attendance, church activities, skiing to him helping my dad and Dwight Wilcox build the covered porch at our house when we moved to Pourtales. Sincerest condolences to you all at this very difficult time. Debbie, Mark and Donnie
