GORDON K. SHUMWAY
9/2/32 - 8/21/18
Gordon K. Shumway was born on September 2, 1932, to Ken and Ivy Shumway in Seligman AZ. Gordon grew up in Mesa AZ where he found the love of his life, in the person of Cherie Ford. He attended Arizona State University on a basketball scholarship, joined the ROTC, married Cherie, then served in the Air Force for 3 years after College.
Gordon kept on the move, living in 14 different cities over 40 years working jobs from owning and managing restaurants to supervising a technical support team for Lockheed Martin at NORAD. All the while raising 3 boys and passing on to them his love for the outdoors, scouting, fishing, and hiking. When he found time he enjoyed playing Bridge, making furniture, honing his wood carving skills and reading almost every book he could get his hands on.
Gordon passed at the age of 85, leaving behind his wife, Cherie, sons, Steve, Doug (Jennifer) and Brian (Clair), his grandchildren, Courtney, Samie, Blake (Jasmine), Todd and Leidhra (Pat), great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Olivia and Taylor Rose. Gordon and his wonderful sense of humor will be remembered and missed by all that knew him.
A private family memorial is planned.

Sorry for your loss. A co-worker showed me the announcement since I worked for Lockheed Martin for 31 years. I did not know Gordon, but I did go to Piedmont Hills High School with Doug Shumway. I now live in Colorado Springs. Small world.

Cherie, So sorry for your loss of Gordon. He will be missed by all of the Pike's Peak Whittlers. He really had a good sense of humor. I remember when he tried to get a Facebook account and they made him prove who he was and not he creator of SLF from the TV series ALF.
