Ichiyo Piper Valas, 88, of Colorado Springs passed away the evening of September 1, 2021. She was born in Taketa, Japan on January 26, 1933. She was married to Peter Valas on July 4, 1954 and who preceded her in passing. Ichiyo had a career with Hewlett Packard for 30 years. She was an avid bowler, a football fan, and delighted in spending time with friends, family, and community. She also enjoyed creating crafts and art that still grace her family's homes. Ichiyo was a long-time member of Southside Bible Chapel.
She is survived by her children Paul (Karen) Valas and Tia (Jim) Hancock; her grandchildren Justin (Wendy) Valas, Jadelyn (Travis Whitaker) Hancock, and Molly Hancock; great-grandchildren Madison and Maya Yuri Valas; and brother Yuki Akamine.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 10, at Memorial Gardens Cemetery & Funeral Home(3825 Airport Rd) and a viewing will be held from 9 AM to 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to Southside Bible Chapel 1725 S Wahsatch Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80905.
