Ina Torreano Obituary

Ina passed away in Colorado Springs on January 4, 2010, surrounded by her children, Marsha Jo, Mark and Mike. Born on April 15, 1917 in Bentley, Michigan, she was raised in Detroit and graduated from Pershing High School in 1935. After working for General Motors in Detroit and later in Enid, Oklahoma as a secretary, she married August “Gus Torreano in November 1941. Following WWII service in Canada, they returned to Detroit and in 1952 moved to Cincinnati. Preceded in death by her parents, Clare and Earl Goddard, and her husband of nearly 60 years, she is survived by her three children, seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Ina had a beautiful strong spirit with compassion for all. Her family came first but she volunteered freely as a Girl Scout leader and at her children's schools, and her home was a magnet for the neighborhood. She was well loved by students and staff at Xavier University where she was administrative assistant to the Dean of Students. She also was receptionist at the Cincinnati Zoo for many years. Her love of literature, music and the outdoors sustained her creative side. She played piano and organ by ear and she was a talented writer, poet and reciter. We can still hear her say, “stand up straight!-- and we do. A celebration of life service was held January 6. Contributions in Ina's memory can be made to the American Diabetes Foundation, http://www.diabetes.org/

Thank-You Mary Lynn Bagenstose for the reminder of Ina's passing. Having lived in Oklahoma & now in Michigan, I never knew about her past, and what a wonderful life she indeed had. I too have fond memories of her and Uncle Gus at the Bellwood house. Both were great people.

What a loving generous spirit she had. Her intelligence was only exceeded by her superior ability to give you her full attention when discussing anything with you. This is probably why she gave extremely good thoughtful replies:) Much love and remembrance

Remembering you always Grandma. Some of the foundest memories I have of our time together were the card games in FL and riding in the Green Machine with you and Grandpa.
