Jack Agee Obituary

Jack K. Agee, long time Colorado Springs attorney, passed away on December 31, 2012. He was born in Portsmouth, Virginia to James L. and Cora Nell Counts Agee on July 22, 1929. He had three siblings, James L. Agee (who preceded him in death), Nancy Hodges (Leon) and Joseph S. Agee (Eloise). He graduated from Randolph Macon College in Virginia, attended Washington and Lee University School of Law, and received his LLB from the University of Denver's College of Law. He and his roommate traveled from Virginia to Colorado for a summer lark, and Jack loved Colorado so much that he transferred to the University of Denver, where he met Joan Martin. They were married at First United Methodist Church on August 17, 1957. The couple moved to Colorado Springs in 1959, where Jack established his law practice. He retired in 2000. Jack was a Marine and served during the Korean Conflict. He obtained the rank of captain. He and Joan loved to travel, and visited all seven continents. Jack believed in education and established scholarships at the University of Denver's College of Law and Randolph Macon College. He enjoyed skiing, dancing and sports. Jack served on the boards of Suicide Referral, Pikes Peak Area Council of Camp Fire Girls, Interfaith Hospitality Network, Social Advocates for Youth, Humane Society, Voice of Truth and Winter Night Club. He belonged to the Pikes Peak Kiwanis Club, where he served as president and lieutenant governor. He was honored to receive several Kiwanis distinguished service awards, including the Legion of Honor Award. The Division 4 Lifetime Achievement Award, named in his honor, is given annually to a district member in his memory. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church and will be interned in the church columbarium. Jack is survived by his wife Joan and two children, Alan (Karin) and Ann Elder (David), and seven grandchildren, Timothy and Lauren Agee, Elyse, Ellyn, Peyton, Victoria and Emily Elder. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10:00a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, 420 North Nevada Avenue. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church or to the charity of the giver's choice.

What a gentleman Jack was. We enjoyed getting to know you a bit over the years at neighborhood breakfast events and as we've been out walking the dog. Rest in Peace. Our prayers will be with Joan and your family.

My deepest condolences to you Joan, Ann, Alan, to your nieces,
to the grandchildren, and to all privileged to know Jack.

My friendship with Jack extended over 43 years. I reflect on how
admirably he lived his life. The words of George Linnaeus Banks
come to mind:
WHAT I LIVE FOR –
I live for those who love me, for those who know the truth;
For the heaven that smiles above me, and awaits my spirit too;
For the cause that lacks assistance, for the wrong that needs resistance,
For the future in the distance, and the good that I can do.

George Linnaeus Banks (2 March 1821 – 3 May 1881), husband of author
Isabella Banks, was a British journalist, editor, poet, playwright, amateur
actor, orator, and Methodist.

Sincerely,
Donald P. Untiedt

Joan, Alan, Ann and family -
What a shock to hear about Jack. When ever we were home, we always enjoyed seeing him, and Wilson always enjoyed visiting with Jack at Tuesday coffee group. The neighborhood has certainly lost a gem of a gentleman. You are all in our prayers!

Goodbye old pal and colleague. Jack was always a gentleman, even in highly contested litigation. He would never say, "Your position is wrong," but rather something like, "Have you considered this?"

In Ireland it is a high compliment to say, "He's a steady fellow."
Jack was a steady fellow, throughly reliable, and a lot of fun to
boot. He had a twinkle in his eye, and a forgiving nature.

He will be missed by many Joan. You and Jack each seemed to
hold the other as your bonanza.
