Jacob Cross Obituary

Jacob Thomas Cross, MD, 72, passed away September 17, 2006 in Colorado Springs. He suffered from post-polio syndrome and was an advocate for recognition and diagnosis of this disorder. Jay, known as "J.T." as a boy, was born February 11, 1934 in Cabot, AR to the union of Hiram and Cora Mae (Stewman) Cross. He was united in holy matrimony with Lillian Louise Webb on June 11, 1960 in North Little Rock, AR. He graduated from the University of Arkansas Medical School and then specialized in psychiatry at Tulane University. He was in private practice in Baton Rouge, LA for over 25 years. As a physician, Jay was well regarded and helped hundreds with mental illness. He taught his wife and children that no obstacle was too great to overcome. Jay is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Lil; two sons and their wives: Jacob Thomas (Robyn) Cross, Jr. of Colorado Springs, Jeffrey Todd (Debbie) Cross of Baton Rouge; one daughter: Deborah Louise Cross of Beaumont, TX; and one brother and his wife, Ernest Edward (Mildred) Cross of North Little Rock, AR. He was especially proud of his four grandchildren: Nicole, Jason, Lauren, and Lindsey. A special thanks to the staff at Brighton Gardens and Dr. Susan McMasters for their assistance with his care. Visitation with family and a service to celebrate his life will be held at Brighton Gardens of Colorado Springs, 1685 S. 21st Street on Saturday, Sept. 23rd from 2:00-4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, written remembrances and funny stories about Jay may be sent to his wife, Lil at 1685 S. 21st Street, Apt. 212, Colorado Springs, CO 80904.
