James Michael FitzPatrick, 83, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on March 7, 2026. Born in New York and raised in Richland, Washington, he served 21 years in the United States Air Force as a Civil Engineer and achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, becoming the youngest enlisted member at the time to reach that rank. After military service, he worked as Director of Public Works for the cities of Idaho Springs, Colorado, and North Las Vegas, Nevada, and later as a funeral director in Las Vegas. He is survived by his sister Kathleen FitzPatrick; children Michael (Kim), Christina, and Martin (Cheryl) FitzPatrick; stepdaughter Pam McLeod; and six grandchildren.
A Committal Service will be held March 27, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Pikes Peak National Cemetery.

If you would like help with any matters related to casualty assistance, Defense Finance & Accounting Service (DFAS), Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP), Veterans Affairs (VA), etc. you can contact our office on Buckley SFB at 720-847-6693 or [email protected]. The RAO is staffed by volunteers, all military retirees themselves, and our sole purpose is to provide assistance to any military retirees and surviving spouses/family members with anything related to their military service and/or benefits, in particular during difficult times such as this. We are deeply sorry for your loss.
