Passed away on June 16, 2021 at Penrose Hospital. James was born in Los Angeles, CA on June 10, 1948 to Roger and Lula Mae (Davie) Hobdy.
Chef Hobdy retired from the Broadmoor Hotel after 30+ years of service. He worked in several kitchens as Chef de Cuisine, where he also mentored many future culinary artists. He will be remembered for his dedication, charming personality and loyalty to the Oakland Raiders.
James is survived by his children, Kevin, Tawny, Alexandra, Marche' and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Roger.
A Celebration of Life reception was held at the Broadmoor's Cheyenne Lodge on June 27, 2021.

Chef Hobdy meant more to me than I think he ever knew. I started working at the Broadmoor in 1997 until 1999. I was a green, fresh from culinary school punk, and he took me under his wing. I learned more from this man, not just cooking, but integrity, work ethic and grit..I am now 52, and now an Executive Chef of a CCRC in Virginia, and haven't stopped cooking in 30+ years. I hope I have half the passion, humor, and charisma as Chef Hobdy. Brian Brust

I met James in 1984 when I started at The Broadmoor. I frequently worked as a cashier at Charles Court where James was Chef. He definitely had a lot of swag! I am so sorry to find out he passed.
