James Kahkoska Obituary

James C. Kahkoska, 84, was born on October 20, 1929 in Queens, New York and passed away on May 22, 2014 in Colorado Springs.

He is survived by his loving family: wife of 61 years, Ursula, daughter Evelyn, son James (Jill) and grandchildren Ryan, Anna and Jessica.

Jim served as a Supply Sergeant in the US Army for 20 years and was awarded a Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in Vietnam. A second career with the Postal Service followed until his retirement in 1989, after which he continued his life-long love of travel. His packed bag was always ready as he logged endless miles and collected many passport stamps traveling the world. Regardless of the destination, Jim was ready for the adventure.

He is remembered for his leadership and served for many years as an elected officer in the local APWU, and as President of the German-American Cultural Society.

Jim put his carpentry skills to work and--along with his close friend--was inspired to build two of his own homes. He also enjoyed fishing, attending Air Force home games, and sharing his love of cooking at the local VFW.

A Celebration of Life gathering is planned in early June for family and close friends to come together in remembrance.

Deepest sympathies to the Kahkoska family. It has been a few years since I have seen or talked to Mr. Kahkoska but have thought of him often and missed my chats with him while at work. You will be missed by many
