In the presence of her husband and daughter, Janice Munday Redmond passed away on January 26, 2023 at her home in Colorado Springs. After spending the Christmas holidays with her family in Austin, Jan and her husband made the journey back from their winter residence in Arizona to Colorado so she could spend her final days in the place she loved most. Many friends and family were able to visit during this time.
Jan was born in Del Norte, Colorado on March 13, 1940 to Clarence Munday and Eva Mahaffey Munday. Her childhood years were spent in Fleming, Colorado and she attended high school in Alamosa, Colorado. Jan and her family spent a year of her high school time in Iraq where her father was working for the government. She always had great stories to share about this unique time.
Jan received her BS Degree from Colorado State University and continued her studies at The Colorado University and The Denver Medical Center where she received her MS degree as an RN and in Speech Pathology. She opened the very first Speech Pathology Clinic at Brooke Army Medical Center in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. She was praised for her establishment of the clinic and for her treatment of wounded Vietnam aphasia patients.
She married Hight Stinson Redmond on July 24, 1968. She then began a 30 year military career alongside her husband. During this time they lived in ten different states. Their marriage lasted almost 55 years.
Jan was the loving and dedicated mother to her two children, Bradley Hight Redmond of Austin, Texas and Kari Paige Redmond of Fort Collins, Colorado. They were fortunate to have their mom always waiting for them after school with homemade chocolate chip cookies. She proudly attended every game or school event wither of them ever had. She had a special love of Christmas- decorating the house from top to bottom, inside and out and baking all sorts of delicious treats. She passed that joy onto her children and grandchildren.
Jan was preceded in death by her father and mother, Clarence and Eva Munday, and her sister, Mary Nell Sheeley. She is survived by her husband, Hight Redmond, her children Brad Redmond and wife Kristen, and Kari Redmond, her brother David Munday of Fleming, Colorado, and her grandchildren Connor and Quinn Redmond.
Jan was a very talented woman not only as a health professional but as a wife, mother, and homemaker. She was an excellent cook, seamstress, and gardener. She enjoyed renovating the many homes they lived in with her creative talents in painting, wallpapering, and interior decorating. She also loved to travel, golf, and play cards. She was an excellent bridge and poker player, her favorite card games.
Jan was a kind, friendly, and loving person to all and a close friend to many. She was a good woman, a devoted wife and loving mother. She will be sorely missed by all those who knew her, but never forgotten.
A celebration of life will be held on February 11 in her honor at Patty Jewett Golf Club at 7pm. All who knew her are welcomed and invited. Come and share stories to celebrate the wonderful life of this amazing woman.
