Jayne Veteto Obituary

Veteto
Jayne Ellen
Veteto
June 7, 1924
December 10, 2025

Jayne Ellen Veteto of Colorado Springs, Colorado entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on December 10, 2025, at the age of 101.
Jayne was born on June 7, 1924, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to George and Cora
Thompson. She grew up in Arkansas and later married her beloved husband, Edgar Otis Veteto ("Pappy") on February 2, 1945, sharing 58 years of love and companionship
together. Together they raised their family in Colorado Springs before retiring in Hot Springs, Arkansas to the family home on Lake Hamilton. In 2001, they returned to Colorado Springs to be closer to family.
Jayne was a devoted follower of Christ, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed (2003); her son, John (2023); her daughter-in-law, Jan (2024); her parents George and Cora, sister Georgia, and brother
Jack. She is survived by her children, Jayne (Jim) Tomlin, Sarah (Doug) Scherling, and Steve (Cris) Veteto; grandchildren Jonathan, Jennifer, Jared, Elizabeth, Polly, Emily, April, Nate, Abbey, Stephen, Nicholas, Philip, and Hannah; and great-grandchildren, Rowan, Zoe, Graham, Phoebe, Sophia, Holden, Lilly, Cael, Brooke, Talon, Peyton, Madilyn, Azariah, and Arabella, nieces, Carol, Jeanie, Beverly, Patricia, MaryAnn, Nancy, Denise, and nephews, David and Mike, as well as a number of great-nieces and nephews, all of whom loved her deeply and will
cherish her memory. A faithful and active member of her church community, Jayne loved Jesus and lived her life with a deep and constant devotion to her faith in Him. She actively served in the churches she attended, including First Baptist Church (Ft. Smith, AR), Calvary Baptist Church, Circle Drive Baptist Church, Second Baptist Church (Hot Springs, AR), and Chapel Hills Baptist Church (now The Road Church), in a variety of different roles. Jayne generously
supported her church and several different charitable causes and was well known for her warm heart, kind spirit, and willingness to help others. Those who know her will attest to her life being a true demonstration of the Proverbs 31 woman.
Jayne delighted in the simple joys of life — gardening and canning her vegetables, quilting beautiful pieces by hand, baking homemade breads and jams that became a beloved holiday tradition for her grandchildren, spending time with her family, and expressing her unique style with her cherished gold shoes. She bore witness to tremendous change over her long life, including the challenges of the Great Depression and WWII and remained true to her values with grace and resilience. For almost 25 years, Jayne lived with her daughter, Sarah, and son-in-law, Doug, in Colorado Springs, where she was surrounded by family and love. She remained active,
sharp and sweet-hearted, participating in many aspects of her large extended families' lives, in spite of various physical challenges she faced over her later years in life. Jayne will forever be remembered for her generous spirit, her laughter, her faith, and the everlasting imprint she made on her family. She was "Mimi" in every sense — a central figure whose legacy of love will continue through all who were blessed to know her. She will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held Friday, January 16, 2026, 10:30 a.m. at The Road
Church in Colorado Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care or the Springs Rescue Mission.

January 15, 2026

It was the year 1969. I was 15 year old. I walked down the aisle at Calvary Baptist Church to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. As I approached the front of the church, a smiling, peaceful face welcomed me as she held her Bible...open. Mrs. Veteto read to me the scriptures for salvation. This was the happiest day of my life. I am 71y.o. now. Mrs. Veteto´s peaceful, compassionate face will always be in my memory. When my time comes to die I know I will see Jesus. Then I hope to see Mrs. Veteto greeting me at Heaven´s aisle once again! Judy
