Mr. Shirley was one of the kindest souls I've ever known! He was always happy, witty, funny and a genuine pleasure to be around. He always had a way of brightening my day and I will truly miss him. Although I didn´t know JD very well, we always seemed to pass each other in the stairwell, and he never failed to have a certain wry grin, often with a funny quip. My heartfelt sympathies to his family.

I always looked forward to seeing JD and his lovely wife, Ann. A pleasure to be around. He was a kind and gentle man, with a bit of charming and restrained wildness, who loved his family and did his best by them. Condolences to all.
