March 27, 2025

Jerry Nelson passed away peacefully at his assisted living community at age 84 on March 27th, 2025. He recently entered hospice care and had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2021.
Jerry's life began on November 10, 1940. He grew up in Fullerton, North Dakota and graduated from Fullerton High School followed by the University of North Dakota. Jerry was born to Affie and May Nelson, alongside his younger brother Harvey Nelson.
Jerry was a lifelong employee of Bridgestone/Firestone. After spending the early part of his career moving around the country, he decided to return to Colorado permanently and purchased the downtown Colorado Springs franchise.
Jerry moved to Manitou Springs in 1995, where he and his second wife Joy Nelson enjoyed the quaint town and their friendly neighborhood. With the Garden of the Gods in their backyard, Jerry enjoyed biking and hiking the trails in the surrounding area. As they remodeled their home, Jerry was a gracious host to family and friends.
Jerry enjoyed spending time with his son Mike, daughter-in-law Danielle, and grandchildren Seth, Kera, and Kate Nelson after they moved back to Colorado Springs in 2005. His family has particularly fond memories of Jerry taking them to Denver Bronco football games and boating at Lake Pueblo during summertime.
In addition to being a caring father, grandfather, husband, brother, and son, Jerry was a deeply loved member of the Manitou and Colorado Springs communities. He spent most weekends at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Colorado Springs, where he volunteered and mentored others while cultivating many friendships.
Jerry was compassionate and selfless, always looking for ways to help others. His thoughtful, witty, wise, and generous character was apparent in everything he did. Jerry will be greatly missed.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Joy, brother Harvey, and parents Affie and May Nelson. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Mike and Danielle Nelson, and his grandchildren, Seth, Kera, and Kate, as well as Joy's daughter Nori.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Friday, May 9th at 1:00pm held at First Presbyterian Church 219 E Bijou St, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.

Sorry to see this, Jerry was a good friend. Met him through my brother Paul who worked with him at Firestone

Many memories from when I was young. I am the daughter of the late, John Thomas Jones and my father worked with Mr. Nelson at Firestone for years. He always had lollipops for my sisters and I when we'd come into the shop with our dad. My father passed away in 2021 and I got the chance to visit with him before Joy had passed away. He was such a nice man! So sorry, Mike for your loss. Forever in our hearts. RIP Mr. Nelson.
