John Ettenhofer Obituary

Ettenhofer
John Robert Ettenhofer
November 14, 1944 January 4, 2018
John Robert Ettenhofer of Colorado Springs died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018 at the age of 73. He had suffered for several years from Parkinsonism and accompanying dementia.
He was born Nov. 14, 1944, in Hamilton, Ohio, to Robert and Margaret Ettenhofer. He attended local public schools there, then headed to college at Ohio State University, where he also graduated from law school. That began his lifelong love of and support for the Ohio State Buckeyes, a passion he shared with his grandfather, John Andrews of Hamilton. Even after moving to Colorado following law school, for many years he traveled back to Columbus to root for his favorite football team. He also enjoyed attending Air Force football, basketball, and hockey games. His love of sports extended to baseball; he was a lifelong fan of the Cincinnati Reds and later enjoyed the Colorado Rockies.
Upon moving to Colorado in 1970, he began a career as a commercial title examiner, eventually becoming well-respected in Colorado Springs for his thorough work and industry knowledge spanning three decades. He eventually retired from a vice president position at Stewart Title in 2012 and later consulted with Land Title on special projects.
Throughout his life he maintained his friendships with several high school friends living in various states, which brought him great pleasure. He also maintained a love of trains, including model trains, and rode the rails when he could. And he traveled, sometimes on mission trips with First Presbyterian Church, but mostly for personal enjoyment. He was a big fan of taking his sons on road trips to U.S. historical sites and national parks. A source of pride was having visited all 50 state capitals. He also went to China and several European destinations.
He is survived by two sons, Jeff (Maria Culcasi) of Richmond, Calif., and beloved grandson Henry Culcasi; Andrew (Nicole) of Chicago; and a sister Judy (Gilbert Williams) of Spring Green, Wis. He is also survived by his former wife, Kendra Henry.
A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thusday, Jan. 18, at Swan Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, Colo. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday Jan. 19, at First Presbyterian Church, 219 E. Bijou St., Colorado Springs. Burial will be at his family gravesite in Hamilton, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association.
The family would like to thank Pikes Peak Hospice and the staff at the Healthcare Resort for caring for John in his final years. In addition, special gratitude goes to his First Presbyterian Church network, as well as his many loyal friends who visited him.

John was a kind contributor to First Presbyterian's Growing Edge Sunday School class.
He shared his home for fun gatherings.
He went on Dulos (God's Servant) trips doing construction projects for those in need. He had a giving heart and sweet spirit.
He was a friend to all there!
Sorry for your loss family.

So sorry to read of John's passing. I first met John when I was fortunate enough to work with him right after graduating from business school in 1976. I looked up to him. He worked with me to help me learn all aspects of the title business in the 7 years I worked with him. It was an honor, privilege and joy to be able to work with him and get to know him. He will be missed.

So sad to see that John passed away. But I am happy that he is free from Parkinson's disease and is with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. John was a friend, and a fellow Buckeye. We grew up not far from each other in Ohio, but did not meet until the late 1990's at First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs.. We met for a Cincinnati Reds game in Cincinnati a few years ago. He was a good friend that will be missed my all who knew him.
