John Klever Obituary

September 25, 1949 - September 2, 2008 John R. Klever, age 58, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1992 formerly of Council Bluffs, Iowa, died on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at his home after a 2 year battle with cancer. John Ross Klever was a born and bred Iowa farm boy. He was born September 25th, 1949 in Audubon, Iowa to the late Donald R. and Marjorie "Lorrene" (Johnson) Klever. By the age of 10, he was driving a tractor on the family farm. He went to Iowa State University and received his degree in Agriculture. A true Cyclone he will always be. Teaching became a passion in his life. He started teaching high school agriculture, but he used his gifts to teach others in many ways. His faith in God was important to him. He was always involved in his local church, even when he was little. He sang in the choir, preached occasionally, went on missions trips and taught multiple Sunday school classes. He loved life! He loved to travel, hike and camp. Playing cards was a favorite activity, but winning was his passion. He loved his family and friends and treasured spending time with them. We lost a husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. His contagious laughter has been quieted. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Klever; his daughter, Deann (husband, Matt) Barrett; his son, Mark (wife, Teri) Klever; two grandsons, Jake and Tyler Barrett all of Colorado Springs. He is also survived by his step children Justin Smith of Bozeman, Montana and Stacey Smith of Colorado Springs; his siblings, Marianne and Rajiv Hotek of California, Mark and Karen Klever of Iowa; Martha and Doc Sturtevant of Nebraska; Phil Klever and Suzanne Stevens of Missouri; Paul Klever and Sally Freeman of North Carolina and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held from 2-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 7th at Calvary United Methodist Church, 4210 Austin Bluffs Parkway, Colorado Springs, CO 80918.

Dear Deann and Mark and families,
We are saddened at hearing of your Dad's death. We will remember him for his robust laughter and sheer enjoyment of family when the Omaha clan would gather. Blessings, Peace and Love.
