John Murphy, Jr. Obituary

John "Jack" Joseph Murphy, Jr., passed away on Wednesday, 7 July 2010. Jack was born in The Bronx, NY on 31 August 1931 as the only child to John J. Murphy Sr. and Mary ellen Finneran. Jack is survived by his loving wife Virginia and five children: Kathleen Warner of Colorado Springs, CO; Brian Murphy of Hudson, NH; Kevin Murphy of Huntington Station, NY; Maureen Farrell of Libby, MT; and Timothy Murphy of Oakdale, NY and nine grandchildren. Jack was a 1949 graduate of Manhattan Preparatory High School and a 1953 graduate of Iona College with a Bachelors degree in Education. He later attended C. W. Post College where he received his Masters in Education. Jack was an elementary school teacher for 35 years, the majority of his career was in the Sachem School District, Long Island, NY. In his spare time he tutored home bound students and served as a high school baseball umpire. After retirement, Jack and his wife lived in Mayfield, NY for 16 years before moving to Colorado Springs in 2005. Cremation has taken place and private services and internment will be on Long Island, NY in August 2010. In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations be made in his name to the National Kidney Foundation.
