John Rodgers Obituary

John “J.R. Rodgers, 55, died suddenly, on Sept. 1, 2010, while out on his morning bicycle ride. John was born in Colorado Springs. He attended Abbey High School in Canon City, and received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Northern Colorado. John worked as a civil investigator for 26 years. He lived for a short time in Denver, but later returned to call Colorado Springs his home. In 1992, John met and married Linda Evans of La Grange Park, Illinois. They later welcomed a son, Michael, a cherished blessing. John was an outstanding father, sharing the love of sports and music. John loved to play guitar and harmonica, listen to all blues and jazz. His favorite love in life was to have family gather to celebrate in song. John was an avid golfer, as a member of the Colorado Springs Country Club. He was able to accomplish his life long dream of achieving a “Hole in One, not once but twice. He loved nothing more than golfing with his best friends on Fridays, and traveling to far away places to conquer other courses. His greatest joy was to follow the sport accomplishments of his nieces and nephews, and his own son, Michael, as he competes on the golf team, or basketball team for Doherty High School. They shared such a love of sports together. John is survived by his loving wife, Linda and adoring son, Michael. He is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Rodgers, father, Edward Rodgers, Jr., and niece, Dotti Simone. He leaves behind 4 sisters, Sharon Simone (Patrick), Susan Hammond, Elizabeth Medlicott (Tom), and Mary Rodgers, and two brothers, Edward Rodgers, Jr.(Angie) and Steven Rodgers, several nieces, Mary Sharon, Molly, Lisi, Katie, Daria, Susie, Mara, Jennifer, Julie, Jessica, Kim and nephews, Sean Rodgers, Chris, Nick, Pat, Jr., Tim, Mark, and Caleb, T.J. and Bradley, and several grand-nieces and nephews. All extremely important in his life. John's life will be celebrated on Tuesday evening at Swan-Lake Funeral Home; Visitation from 5-7 p.m. with a Memorial at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be at Devine Redeemer, 1520 E. Yampa, Colorado Springs on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. Family requests, “Prayers and love for our family.

Dear Linda and Michael, brothers and sisters of John, nieces and nephews of Uncle John ~ his FAMILY and Many Friends,
I am so very sorrowful for your Loss.
FAMILY was always at the center of my youngest brother's heart. John was a devoted and loving husband and father, brother,brother-in-law, VIP Uncle and Friend.
John's most cherished gift was his capacity to LOVE his Family and enjoy ALL of the good times with them. John cared, nurtured and always kept in touch with All of his nieces and nephews. He loved his large family unconditionally.
You brightened my life, all of our lives with your presence, humor, Music, song, laughter, athletics, and your made us each feel cherished by your heart.

May you continue to inspire us and Love us forever. I will always miss you and hold tight the God-given years of memories shared with a treasured and loving brother. 'I'll see you in the sky above, in the tall grass and in the ones that I love....you're gonna make me lonesome when you go.'
Love you with all of my heart,

I never met John, except on the telephone (countless times). He did work for me and many others at the company I worked for. He was always gracious, and extremely competent. I am saddened by his passing. He is missed by me. William Dickson Attorney at Law retired

I will miss my brother John deeply. He contained within himself a magnificent and contagious love of life and people. I loved his grace in sport (tennis, basketball, baseball, golf), his over-the-top competitive spirit, the gentle, gorgeous timbre of his singing voice, the beauty of his guitar playing. I loved how he loved his family, Linda and Michael, and how he could extend that love to so many others, particularly all his nieces and nephews...to children in general. I will miss his presence here...on planet Earth. I will look for that presence in the winds, the rain, the waving grasses, the stars, the hawk in circling flight. Sue Rodgers Hammond (sister)

My uncle John was the best. I looked forward to him and Linda and Michael coming to stay with us at spring break every year. I loved hearing him laugh or cheer while watching sports on TV with my husband and son, and seeing him get ready for his bike rides - sharing our best stretch techniques that helped our always problematic backs, making special apple oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies for he and his family when they came and relaxing in San Diego or the desert and sharing some great memories and conversation. I love you Uncle John and will miss you so very very much. Love Marsoid.

John Rodgers will always be alive in my heart, as I am sure he will be in all of yours who knew him. He has not only my love and friendship, but my respect and admiration. He will always be hitting a golf ball a mile or dunking a basketball in my memories, playing a new song on the phone, or singing with me, to say nothing of the countless hours that come to mind of the million ways we played and competed together.

My deepest sympathy to all of his family. Love and peace.
My prayers are with you.
