John Matthew Ryan Jr. obituary

John Ryan Obituary

Our beloved John Matthew Ryan Jr passed away July 29, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Susan, daughter Kathleen, son John "Jack", granddaughter MaryJane, sister Patricia (John), brother Christopher (Andrea), nephews Matthew, John and Christopher, nieces Lindsey, Casey, Marie and Jennifer and countless friends and loved ones.

John was born in Bronx, New York on February 15, 1952. The family later moved to Old Bridge, New Jersey. He served honorably in the United States Army during Vietnam and later as a reservist. His love for all things military led him to his career as a civilian member of the Department of Defense.

His passion for the mountains led him to Colorado Springs in 1991. He loved his life and work here. He would rather be in the mountains than anywhere on earth except maybe Alaska.

A Catholic Mass was held at St. Mary's Cathedral, in Colorado Springs August 1, 2014 at 10:00 am which was followed by a graveside service at Fort Logan cemetery.

Words cannot convey the entirety of our lovely John Ryan. He loved so many things and so many people. His kindness, generosity of spirit, thoughtfulness and great heart was his gift to us.

Memorial contributions may be made in John's honor to: St. Jude's Children's Hospital (www.StJude.org) or Disabled American Veterans (DAV.org/Donate).

I've known John for over a decade, during my Active Duty time, and also as a civilian with SMDC. He was a great man, and always helpful no matter what he was doing. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

To all the Ryan Family. I am so sorry for your loss! I can even see the wonderful spirit of John in this picture. He was a wonderful person and too young to leave this earth but now Heaven has a new wonderful Angel that will always look down upon us and protect us. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you....God Bless!
