It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mom and grandma, Joyce Arellano. Joyce passed away on June 14, 2024 in Colorado Springs with her family at her side. Joyce was born in Amalia, New Mexico to Roy and Lena (Vallijos) Scholes. She was the youngest of three sisters. She grew up in Walsenburg, Colorado. Joyce married her high school sweetheart, Mel Arellano. They shared 54 years of marriage until Mel passed away in 2010.
Together they raised their two children in Colorado Springs. Joyce later moved to Pueblo, Colorado after Mel's passing. Joyce retired from Hewlett-Packard. After retirement, she and Mel enjoyed spending summers at their summer home in Northern New Mexico. Family was very important to Joyce and we all were spoiled with her wonderful meals.
She is survived by her daughter, Laura Figgie, her son, Kenneth Arellano, her grandsons, Christopher Figgie, Nicholas Figgie, Garrett (Wendy) Arellano and great grandson, Krue Ryan Figgie and many nieces and nephews.
A Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 20th at Swan-Law, 501 N Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, CO. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2030 W Colorado Ave., Colorado Springs, CO. Interment will follow at Crystal Valley Cemetery, 502 Plainview Pl., Manitou Springs, CO. After the Interment, a reception and luncheon will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Center.
