We are heartbroken to announce the death of Judith Rae Townsend Slaughter, who passed away
at her home in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on May 26, 2022 at the age of 82. We already miss
her very much. She leaves behind John Sidney Slaughter, her beloved husband of 63 years; her
brother James and his wife Vicki Townsend; her daughters Tracy Lee Darby and her husband
Robin Darby, and Jacque Lynne Duncan and her husband Keith Duncan; and her granddaughter
Sydney Claire Duncan.
Judy was born in Denver, Colorado, on October 11, 1939, to the late Wilma and Willard (Tex)
Townsend. She excelled academically, winning a National Scholastic writing award, and
graduating South High School in 1957 with a 4.0 GPA, while also being elected Senior Prom
Queen. She lived a life of service dedicated to others. She did extensive volunteer work for the
Junior Symphony Guild, as well as volunteering at her children's school library and other school
events. She supported her loving husband in everything, working to put him through college and
helping him to start his own business.
She also had many friends and was a well-loved member of the community. She was a beautiful
person who spread joy and happiness wherever she went. She will be missed terribly and will
always hold a place in our hearts.

memorial service we are holding in her honor at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade
Avenue, Colorado Springs, on June 13 at 10:00 am.
