Keith King Obituary

Keith Christian
King

February 3, 2024

Keith Christian King passed away peacefully on February 3, 2024, from pancreatic cancer at home surrounded by family. Keith was born in Tekoa, Washington on March 12, 1948. He earned a bachelor's degree in industrial education from Colorado State University Pueblo in 1970, and a master's degree in vocational education from Oregon State University in 1976. He taught high school and coached basketball in California and Oregon until 1977, when he returned to Colorado to start Waterbed Palace. He served the students and the state of Colorado in many capacities. He was on the Cheyenne Mountain School Board from 1991 to 1995 and was president of the Cheyenne Mountain Charter Academy from 1995 to 1998. He started Colorado Early Colleges in Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, Parker, and Aurora. He served eight years in the Colorado House of Representatives from 1999 to 2007. Serving as House Majority Leader during the 2003 to 2004 session. He also served one term in the Colorado Senate from 2009 to 2013. His final elected office was with the Colorado Springs City Council from 2013 to 2017, where he served as council president for two years. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2010, which he fought with steadfast determination, like all his endeavors in life. One of Keith's favorite Bible verses was 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 NIV "Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love". His mother Ruth gave him these verses to encourage and guide him as a legislator. The outpouring of kindness from so many has deeply touched the whole King family. We are grateful and humbled to hear so many stories of how Keith impacted their lives. He leaves an immense legacy and has truly left his mark on so many people and the state of Colorado. He is survived by Sandra, his wife of 51 years; son, Jeremy; daughter-in-law, Shiree; grandchildren, Makenzie, Jordan and Evan; son, Brandon; daughter-in-law, Sara; grandchildren, Eliana and Hudson; sisters, Colleen and Karen, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father: Clyde; mother, Ruth, and brother, Dean. We welcome you to rejoice with us as he is with Jesus Christ, his Savior, in Heaven and with friends and family that preceded him. A visitation will start at 9:00 am on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Radiant Church, 4020 Maizeland Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909, with a Celebration of Life to follow at 10:00 am. All are welcome to attend.
