Lawrence Likness Obituary

Lawrence "Larry" T. Likness, age 86, passed away on the afternoon of Sunday, June 5, 2016, in Colorado Springs with family by his side. He was born to Lawrence and Vivian (Langford) Likness and was the eldest of six children.

Larry grew up on a farm near Veblen, South Dakota. In 1949 he joined the United States Army. He married Patricia Chambers on October 14, 1950. Larry served in the Army from January 31, 1949 to October 31, 1951, the Reserves from March 15, 1954 to October 30, 1955 and the Colorado National Guard from October 3, 1955 to October 30, 1958, where he attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. Larry spent the next 60 years in banking and serving his community. He was Compliance Director and a member of the Board of Directors of Stockmens Bank in Colorado Springs at the time of his passing.

Larry was involved with C.S. Rod & Custom, First United Methodist Church, First Company at FUMC, Classic Thunderbird Club International, NRA, Colorado Shooting Association, CSSD 11 Senior Advisory Group and The American Legion. He could fix or build anything and was quick to help anyone who asked.

Larry is survived by his wife, Pat; son, Greg (Torre) Likness; daughter, Jan (Frank) Dressel; grandchildren: Brian (Jennifer) Dressel, Jenifer Dressel, Jillian Likness, Ryan (Marysa) Likness; great granddaughters: Ainsley and Braelyn Likness as well as his sisters: Marge Hagenson and Virginia Likness. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: David, Bruce and Betty.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Lehmberg Chapel at First United Methodist Church, 401 North Nevada Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either First United Methodist Church or a charity of the giver's choice.

Dear family,
Larry was a dear friend of my father, James Hover, who passed away in 1964. When I moved back here I met Larry at work and he was so sweet. Then he and Pat came to my mother's (Charline) funeral. My thoughts and prayers go out to you all.
