Leonard Overton Obituary

Leonard A "Shorty" Overton, age 86, a longtime resident of Colorado Springs passed away on June 1, 2006 with his family and friends by his side. Leonard Alfred Overton was born on August 13, 1919 in Gray, Oklahoma to Leonard and Delia Overton. He served honorably in World War II in Normandy, through France and into Germany. After returning home, he began a construction career in Guymon, Oklahoma. He married Olene B. Wooldridge on October 25, 1947 in Clayton, New Mexico, and they began their 59-year journey of love, friendship, and devotion to each other. In 1962, he moved his family to Colorado Springs and opened Superior Cleaners, where he and Olene worked and prospered side by side until 1985 when they retired. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends left behind and will be remembered for his generosity in sharing his time, love and many talents with others, not the least of which was his uncanny knack for fixing anything with a moving part. His beloved wife, Olene, survives "Shorty"; as well as three grandchildren: Tim Ralston, Terri Rodriguez and Tammy Mango and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his step-daughters: Bonnie and Catherine and three brothers: Edd, Francis, and Robert Overton. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2006 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the Shrine of "Remembrance" America the Beautiful" Chapel of Roses. Private entombment will be at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Gate of Heaven. A luncheon will be held immediately following at the Olympian Plaza Reception and Event Center, 975 S. Union Boulevard.

Uncle Shorty will be missed by many as he was loved by all who met him. He was always full of life and laughter. Shorty was an awesome host and made us feel welcome in their home. I can not imagine Colorado Springs without him. Our thoughts and prayers are with Olene, family and friends. Sandra, Brian and Nathan Dickerson

Shorty was always lively and interested in being a part of what was going on, especially at Stump family reunions. Both he and Olene took time from their cleaners to take us to lunch when my husband and I visited from NJ and looked them up in Colorado Springs. On another visit they came to our daughters home in the Black Forest to visit. He inspired us with his zest for life. We are grateful to have known him and send our heartfelt wishes to Olene. Mary Ellen (cousin) & George Mertz, Monroe Towhship, NJ.
