Loyal Campbell Obituary

Loyal Dean Campbell, 71, retired from Colorado Springs School District 11, was welcomed into his Heavenly home at sunset on April 21, 2015. He was born on July 10, 1943 in Horton, Kansas to the union of Reverend Ivan E. and Marvel A. Campbell. Loyal grew up in the small town of Edison, Nebraska, where his father was Minister of the First Christian Church. Many childhood experiences were later remembered in one of the six books that he authored: "Memory Stories: A Personal Journey." Loyal's first book, "My Vietnam Year May 1968-May 1969"was written to ensure his children and grandchildren would understand his war time experiences.

Loyal was a Vietnam Veteran having served honorably in Phu Bai, Vietnam from 1968-1969 with the 231st Signal Detachment and Flight Operations of the 48th Assault Helicopter Company "Blue Stars".

He was united in holy matrimony to Helen Alice Scanlin on July 11, 1987 in Colorado Springs, Colorado and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

When Loyal and Helen married, they not only joined hearts and lives but also families. To cherish his memory he leaves: wife Helen Campbell, daughter Teresa Dagaz, son Jim Campbell (wife Karen), daughter Laurie Scanlin (husband Tim Bellio), son Robert Scanlin, daughter Mary Livingston (husband Scott) and son Ryan Campbell (wife Lisa). Loyal is also remembered by brother Kenis Campbell (wife Nancy) of Yukon, Oklahoma, sister Aleta Campbell (husband Bill Medeiros, Jr.) of Colorado Springs, brother Bryan Campbell and sister Elona Baxter, both of Kearney, Nebraska; loving friends Don and Marcia Jones, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, Aunt Clena, Aunt Nadine and Uncle Milan, and a host of cousins and friends. Loyal, with his great smile, sense-of-humor and loving spirit will be missed and treasured.

The Burial Ceremony with Military Honors is at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colorado on Tuesday April 28, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. Celebration of Life/Memorial Service is at Cappadona Funeral Home, Colorado Springs, on Wednesday April 29, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. May this be a time of celebrating, honoring and remembering a wonderful life; and especially give God thanks and praise for the gift of Loyal Dean Campbell!
