Michael Livengood Obituary

Michael Livengood was born on January 23, 1943 in Miami, Florida to Charles D. Livengood and Ava Carroll Hede Greeley. He grew up in Wyoming and was proud to be an alumni of University of Wyoming. Mike died quite suddenly on September 13, 2005 after bravely battling lung cancer, with his family by his side. Mike served in the Army from May 1961 to 1986, including two tours in Vietnam. He earned, among numerous other service medals, the following awards: Purple Heart, Silver Star, Bronze Star, Bronze Star Medal with Valor Device, Parachutist Badge, Air Medal, German Army Parachutist Award in Bronze, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Devices, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Palm, and Meritorious Service Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters. Mike completed Command and General Staff College in 1981 and earned a B.S. in Business Administration at Hawaii Pacific College in 1986. After retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel, he earned an MBA in Finance from the University of Colorado and sold real estate in Colorado Springs for the next eight years. Mike married Yvonne Brimhall in 1968. They lived with their children, Yvette and Scott, in Germany, Kansas, Colorado, and Hawaii. Mike loved golf and traveling with his wife and friends, especially to play as many different golf courses as possible. Denver Bronco games were the highlight of his week. The light of his life was his four-year-old twin grandchildren Ava and Zeke. Mike proudly supported his children's continuing education. Mike and Yvonne were 20-year residents of Colorado Springs and also loved spending time in their second home in Breckenridge with family and friends. Mike is survived by his wife, Yvonne; daughter, Yvette (husband Tim); grandchildren: Ava and Zeke McIlvain; son Scott; and brothers: Scott (wife Jami), Ronnie, and Steve. Memorials can be made to the Shrine of Remembrance for the Honor Court as a memorial for Mike. A Memorial Service will be held at the Shrine of Remembrance at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2005.

Dear Yvonne & Family - please accept our condolences and deepest sympathy in your loss of Mike. Our Cousin Janet called from Georgia today to let us know - we were shocked to learn of his illness and untimely passing. We feel fortunate that Mike was able to visit us on one of his California trips - it afforded us the opportunity to become reacquainted after so many lost years. Our love to all of you - Cousin Pat.

Yvette and Scott,

We are so sorry for your loss. Your Dad truly meant more to me than you probably know. He always welcomed me into your lives and home as if I was family. My friendship with both of you was truly possible because of him, and I'll always charish that. I know his legacy and spirit will continue through both of you and your families.

Mrs. Livengood,

Our prayers and condolences are with you. You and Mr. Livengood meant so much to me during good and bad times. Be sure to lean on your friends and family and let them be part of your healing. I sincerely offer anything we can do to help.

Love,

Danny, Marnie, Riley, and Lauren McVaugh

Dear Family, as you have always been. I pray to give you the strength and support during this time of loss. Your family has brought SO many memories into my life. Mike and Yvonne, you always gave me support as I was away from my parents, you made me feel like one of your own. Mike always was there to make me laugh and be "Papa Smurf". He will now be able to share the joy with others in heaven and be "Papa Smurf" to so many other little girls.

Mike will always be in my thoughts and prayer as the rest of you.

God Bless you all...now let's celebrate Mike's well lived LIFE!!!

Mike's best golf advice to a novice: "you're on the short grass - putt!"

Folks in the real estate industry were sorry to see Mike retire - a meticulous professional, he was also lots of fun at golf outings, ski bus days, etc.
