Morgan Porter Obituary

Morgan E Porter passed away on March 12 in Tampa Florida after a determined battle with cancer. He was the third child and only son of Morgan S and Nancy Porter. He was born on November 3, 1953 and spent his early years by Seneca Lake in Upstate New York. While still a young teenager his family relocated to Woodmoor Colorado where he finished high school. During this period he formed a bond with several classmates that endured throughout the rest of his childhood and adult years. After high school Morgan began a career with the Larimer County Sherriff's Department. After nearly a decade and a half, Morgan left the Sherriff's Department to pursue his lifelong entrepreneurial dream in a variety of business ventures that took him from Anacortes WA to Savannah GA to Murfreesboro TN and finally to Tampa Florida. Besides his entrepreneurial dreams, one of the overriding forces that led him through these years was his desire to be near large bodies of water. During this period he became the proud father of two daughters, Lisa and Taylor. Morgan was preceded in death by his parents Nancy and Morgan S Porter. He is survived by his wife Connie, his daughters Lisa and Taylor, his stepson Ryan Helton and by his sisters Gay Dorrance of Cazenovia New York and Joy Porter of Manitou Springs Colorado and his precious grandchildren Mackenzie, Logan and Evrett and his faithful dachshund Fritzel. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews who always regarded Morgan as the ‘fun' uncle, and his friends Kevin, Daryl and Bob who were with him until the end. Wherever he traveled throughout his life, Morgan had a charm that won over whomever he met. He was a man with strong opinions and a man with a passion for living. He enjoyed any activity that got him near water, political debate, family activities and spending time with friends. Morgan and Connie enjoyed boating and travel in their RV and spending time with their grandchildren in Colorado and Tennessee. There will be a memorial service at 6:00pm on Friday, March 18 at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2853 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, Florida.

Gay, Joy and Connie & family (who I haven't met), Morgan is my cousin, and I am surprised and saddened to hear of his passing. When I was a little girl living at Kashong, we were lucky enough to have our cousins the Porters move into the neighborhood. This is the source of many fond memories, but one in particular involved Morgan. He taught me to play a certain board game that they had at the house, and for a long time after that I used to walk up to the Porter's and ask Morgan to come out and play. I'm sure this wasn't his favorite pass time, since he was one of the "big kids" and I was very small, but he was kind enough to put up with me. That's how I'll remember him. He was a good guy, a Kashongy, and he is gone too soon.

I am one of Morgan's oldest friends from his days growing up at Kashong Point on Seneca Lake. I am very sorry for your loss, but even sadder that I never got to cross paths with him again. Please pass along my condolences to Joy, Gay and the rest of the family. Bill Whitwell (Geneva, NY)
