Norval Hurst Obituary

Hurst
Norval DeVon Hurst
July 7, 1948
March 26, 2024

We are saddened to announce the passing of Norval DeVon Hurst. Norval peacefully passed away March 26th, 2024, after an impressive fight to recover from a stroke.
Norval was born in Woodward, Oklahoma on July 7th, 1948. He moved to Colorado Springs in 1954, when he was five years old. Norval attended public school in central Colorado Springs his entire academic career, graduating from Mitchell High School in 1966. He met the love of his life, Sharon, right before being drafted into the Army. Norval served as a missile specialist in Okinawa, Japan, during the Vietnam War.
After completing his service, Norval returned to Colorado Springs, built and sold a small welding and medical supply company and raised his family with Sharon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his many friends, and hanging out with his great-grand dog, and best buddy, Law. Until the end, Norval's big heart and willingness to get into mischief never waned. Norval is dearly loved by his entire family and his wide circle of friends.
He leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Sharon, his daughter, Shannon Anderson (Ted), his grandchildren, Samantha Anderson and Bryan Hurst (Priscila), and his sister Darla Kruger. Norval was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Jack and Isla May, and his sister, Phyllis Bell. In lieu of flowers, donations in Norval's memory may be made to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (https://www.hsppr.org/). A celebration of Norval's life is TBA.

Norval was absolutely the best! He took care of us at our family business, Olson Plumbing & Heating Co. for decades. Whether at IGP or General Air, Norval took care of business and of us. He would stop by the shop every week to check on us and make sure everything was going the way it should. We missed seeing him after he retired.....his kind of genuine customer care is a thing of the past.
RIP Norval and prayers for the Hurst family.

Norval was the ultimate customer advocate. He certainly lived by the motto - If
you take care of the customer, the customer will take care of you. Norval was genuine, never knew a stranger, and always had that great positive attitude. I will miss the warm smile, his firm handshake and his often query. Do you remember--------?

Prayers are with the entire family, and the thoughts are muddled right now, however the memories will last forever. The good times when we all would go to Cripple Creek for the day, and a good meal, and sharing our experiences there, 9 times out of 10 Norv was the big winner. The past
30 Thanksgivings we were privileged to be a part of the Hurst family for the big meal, and of course the football games. In return we were very fortunate to have Norv & Sharon to our place in the country for 2 BBQs a year and the good times continued to roll, celebrations of Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day and joint birthdays made it all the more special. Norv was the brother I never had and Sharon has been my best friend for all these years. My heart goes out to Sharon, Shannon, Bryan, and Samantha, and we are always here for you, and hope to be able to continue the special times we have shared over the years, with an empty chair at the table for Norv, who will always be with us all in spirit.

Norval was a great people person. I think he knew everyone that worked at every shop in town and he liked to keep track of folks, making sure they were okay. He truly loved his work and was a staunch advocate for his customers, sometimes putting him at odds with his boss. Norval would ask me if I remembered someone from when we worked together at IGP and then he would proceed to tell me the latest story about them.
His heart was filled with kindness.
He will be missed.

I had the pleasure of working very closely with Norval around 2003 when he joined our family business.

Norval was loved by his customers because there wasn't a single thing he wouldn't do to serve them. I can remember that he used to say that he got more done before sunlight (o-dark-thirty) than most salespeople did in an entire day, which was 100% true!

It was a pleasure and honor to work alongside Norval. My deepest condolences to the Hurst family.

Normal and I first met 47 years ago, he was the best welding supply rep ever. If he changed companies so did I. He was a man that was good to his word. When Norval retired from General Air so did great customer service that has never been replaced. Rest in peace knowing you were our best friend throughout the welding community!!

Saddened to learn of Norval´s passing and wishing his family the best as they cherish his memory. He always spoke fondly of his family and we all know how much he cared for you all.

Some of us had the pleasure of working with Norval throughout the years and many of us learned from him how to best serve our customers by modeling his actions. He will always be a legend in the Colorado Springs welding supply business, his relationships with his customers were genuine and vast.

From this old coworker and from many Colorado Springs business folks: Norval, you will be missed.

Sharon, I'm so sorry for your loss. Norval was a constant source of strength and helpfulness for you and your life. Loss is painful and grief is the natural out poring of that pain. Don't hesitate to ask for what you need from me and others in your life. Support is worth the openness. Please let yourself be supported by your friends and family when you are ready.

Loretta As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

My dad was my knight in shining armor. He came to my rescure more times than I can count -or deserved. He loved us all without fail and would have given us the shirt off his back if we needed it. He was dearly loved by all his friends and family; he will be sorely missed.
