Philip Ambard Obituary

Phil Ambard, 44, was killed in the line of duty in Kabul, Afghanistan. Phil was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He moved to the United States at the age of 12. He didn't speak a word of English. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force as an Airman Basic. He rose to the rank of SMSgt (select) before he was commissioned as an officer. Phil recently graduated from Denver University with a PhD and a second master's degree. As a believer in Jesus Christ as his savior, Phil lived his life with integrity, faith, and a commitment to do what he could to make a difference in the lives of others. His humility never allowed him to see the impact that he had on the many people, but, oh, how he made a difference with his coaching, teaching, friends, hosting cadets, military colleagues, and most importantly, his family. Phil loved having a large family. He is survived by Patrick, Josh (Karla), Emily, Alex, and Tim. He instilled in each of them a sense of humor, love/duty of his adopted country, faith, and hard work. He is survived by his wife of almost 23 years. Words can't express the husband he was. They did everything together and they were each other's best friend. Funeral service will be held Thursday, May 5th, at 12:30 P.M. at the United States Air Force Academy chapel. Viewing will begin at 12:00 P.M. Burial will immediately follow the service at the USAF Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to woundedwarriorproject.org in Philip Ambard's name. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13

Phil, I never told you the difference you made in my life; the mentor you were, the example you set. I'm sure I'm only a tiny grain of sand compared to the thousands you influenced in your all too short life but you were the greatest man and officer I ever had the privilege to work with.

Linda & Family,

Rest at peace knowing that Phil is looking down on you all with pride and everlasting love.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

I Salute You.

Dear Linda and Family
our prayers and codolences are with you
on the loss of your Husband. I never had the Honor to meet him but what you told me about him he was a great Guy just like you are a great Lady. In John 17:22

of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.

I knew Maj. Ambard for a very short time, while he was preparing for his deployment, but his love of the Air Force and desire to deploy for his country definately made an impression.
My condolences on your loss and you will remain in my thoughts.

To the Family,
My heart cries for you now as I have read through the other messages. I didn't think I knew your hubby and daddy, until I saw his picture. I can't forget that face. As I worked at the Academy I remember seeing him and brief exchanges. But, as a sister in Christ, I both grief with you for your loss but also rejoice with you in his gain. The Lord has him now and we all will see him again one day. Thank you for your testimony and I and honored to have served with your beloved.

In Christ alone can we have unexplainable peace, lean hard into Him. My love to you all.

Dear Linda, Patrick, Josh, Emily, Alex, and Tim,

The husband and father you mourn today touched many in his life. Phil first entered my life as my interpreter in France in February 1996. Over a two month period, he helped our deployed KC-135R team work smartly with our Istres AB, France hosts. Phil was the consummate professional and gentleman and his polished approach with our hosts absolutely improved our US/France military relationship. And in between working challenges, Phil spoke of his plans for the future and the wonderful family that supported his dreams. Phil was loved and deeply respected by all those around him. He was the best listener and thoughtful thinker I have ever encountered. His gracious demeanor and kindness were as present and integral to his soul as was his determination for self improvement. Phil genuinely celebrated the talents and successes of his entire family. I still see his face light up and hear his voice excite while talking about Linda's running, and the academic and swimming successes of Patrick, Josh, Emily, Alex and Tim. Phil gave us all great examples of how to live life to its fullest. I will forever miss my great friend, Phil, and want you to know the tremendous impact your husband and father had on me.

With my deepest sympathy,
Steve King, Col USAF (Retired)

To the family of Maj. Ambard I am very sorry for your loss. Soon the God of Armies "will render judgment among the nations and set matters straight respecting many peoples. And they will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruninig shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore." - Isaiah 2:4

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to MAJ. Philip D. Ambard our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Philip. And to Philip it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while deployed to Afghanistan with the U.S. Air Force. No greater love and patriotism is shown than a man lay down his life in service to his country. Philip, you are a brave Air Force Warrior and a true Patriot. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,307 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Philip’ family and loved ones.
