Quentin "Lee" Barnes

Quentin "Lee" Barnes peacefully passed away Thursday, December 2, 2021. Lee was born on June 20, 1941 in San Francisco to Harry Elmer Barnes and Betty Hunt Barnes. He joined the United States Air Force in 1959, playing in multiple field bands in the United States, Central and South America. In 1971, Lee was assigned to the USAF Academy Band where he played several years as principal clarinetist, traveling throughout the United States. He retired from the Air Force in 1986 after 26 years of service. Lee performed up to the last days of his life and will be greatly missed by his family, countless musicians, friends and numerous audiences. We will honor Lee in his Celebration of Life service on January 8, 2022, 1:00PM at Swan-Law Funeral Home, 501 N Cascade, Colorado Springs.

Lee was one of the warmest, kindest musicians I knew. He was also able to tell some really funny stories! I will never forget not only the stories, but the twinkle in his eyes and his laugh as he told them. It was always a pleasure to talk to Lee! He will be missed!

The Buckley SFB military Retiree Activities Office (RAO) would like to offer our sincere condolences and our gratitude for Mr. Barnes' 26 years of service to our country in the Air Force. If you would like help with any matters related to casualty assistance, Defense Finance & Accounting Service, Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP), Veterans Affairs (VA), etc. you can contact our office on Buckley SFB at 720-847-6693. The RAO is staffed by volunteers, all military retirees themselves, and our sole purpose is to provide assistance to any military retirees and surviving spouses/family members with anything related to their military service and/or benefits, in particular during difficult times such as this. We are deeply sorry for your loss.
