March 1, 2026

Ray Alvarado passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026. Born in Amarillo,Texas in 1934 to Baltazar Alvarado and Carmela Ortega, Ray was one of 13 children.

Ray always credited his eldest brother, Balta, and Tom Hoe, the director of the Colorado Springs Boys Club, as his guiding lights. The Boys Club provided him with his first indoor shower (a memory he loved to share) and access to their library, gym and most importantly a woodshop, where Ray developed a passion for wood-working.

Ray also became interested in electronics which led him to a lifelong career in the electronics field. After starting in sales, he eventually opened Security Radio & TV as co-owner with Bud Silloway. Later after selling his share of the business, Ray enjoyed a productive career with Hewlett-Packard.

Ray's passions in life were golfing, woodworking and aviation. He became a master woodworker and left behind many beautiful projects. A long-held dream was to build his own airplane—a project he pursued with determination until he had to set it aside to care for his second wife, Mary (Williams), when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

Ray's legacy is one of self-determination and an undying love for learning. He is survived by his children: Loretta Patterson, Carolyn Black, Ray Alvarado, Angelina Witt-Thompson, Vivian LeFebvre, and Jessica Rodenburg; their mother, Flora Alvarado; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sisters, Veronica Kwan and Gloria Caldwell, along with countless stories that will be cherished by all who knew him. In accordance with Ray's wishes, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Boys & Girls Club of the Pikes Peak Region.
