Richard (Rick) Lee Price, age 79, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024. Rick spent the last days of his life surrounded with love from his family and friends.
Rick was born in Moberly Missouri, on April 12, 1945, to Lawrence and Helen Price. He was the first of three children. He spent his early years in Moberly. In the early 1950's the Price family moved to Buffalo Iowa, where Rick lived until heading to college on a full ride football scholarship. Rick attended Davenport West High School after finishing elementary and junior high school in Buffalo. Rick excelled in sports while a student at West High School. While at West her earned seven athletic letters in basketball, football and baseball. He was a catcher on the 1962/63 West team that won the Baseball State Championship. Rick was selected to the Hawkeye Boys State in 1961. He began his significant leadership roles with the office of West High Student Body President in 1963 as well as being Co-Capton of the senior year football team. He continued to distinguish himself in football and leadership at the University of Northern Iowa while getting a degree in education earning honors being Co-Capton, and most valuable player during his senior year. He returned to UNI to get a master's degree in counseling.
Rick spent thirty-eight years as a coach and educator beginning as a teacher and assistant principal at JB Young Junior High School in Davenport. He served as Assistant Principal at Iowa City West High School, Southern Hills Junior High in Boulder Colorado, Assistant Principal at Glenview Junior High and Principal at Bowlesburg Elementary School in East Moline Illinois. He was inducted into the West High School Hall of Honor in 2013. Rick retired in 2002 as Principal of Carmel Middle School in School District 2 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After retirement he served two terms as a District 2 school board member. He was a co-founder of Entrada, the first school-based health clinic in Colorado Springs as well as Peak Education, a non-profit dedicated to supporting middle school students' academic success in middle school, high school and through higher education. Rick served four years in the Army Reserves during the Viet Nam War. Rick was a member of several community boards and has been a community volunteer in every place he has lived. In 1996, Rick was nominated and selected for his commitment to young people in southeast Colorado Springs to carry an Olympic Torch as the light traveled through the United States.
Rick was known as a strong and committed educator dedicated to the success of all youth. He believed that every young person had the potential to be successful in school and life. He was an intelligent loving, generous and caring man
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Lawrence Price and niece, Tenice Price.
He is survived by his wife Diane of 38 years, daughter Alicia Edwards, New Orleans, LA, son Tony Price, Arvada, CO, sister Carolyn Price, Davenport, IA grandchildren Paige Edwards, Dallas, TX, Maxwell Price and Evie Price, Arvada CO, first wife, Jo Price, Denver, CO and nieces Ashley Price, Kerry Pierman, Wendy Price VanBuren, and nephews Chris Price, Jeff Price, Alex Price and ," Bonus Son", Calvin Brown and godchildren Arin Dunn and Tara Dunn-Jackson.

This is really sad. I went to Carmel middle school, Mr price was always trying to get me out of trouble and keep me on the right direction. He definitely had the most impact.
I remember bumping into him at the book store few years ago, (he still remembered me) but he wanted to catch up. People like him you will always remember he was such a great man. I´m sorry for your loss. :(

I went to Carmel Middle school, and boy was he on it, lol....Mr. Price did not play! At the sametime he was reasonable and cared for all of us tremendously. I can still hear his booming voice and laugh today. RIP Mr. Price. My cond

Prayers for the family. Mr. Price was my middle school principal (Carmel Middle School). He was always a very kind man and passionate about education. He always let me know that he has high expectations. I´m grateful that he allowed God to use him in the lives of young people. He was a father figure to many of us . My first year (6th grade) was Mr. Price´s first year as Principal. He was not only our principal, he was a friend and for some of us a Dad. My heart is broken by this loss.
