Robert Gower Obituary

Robert Gower, a dapper dresser, charming man and affectionately known as "Bobby G" or "Mr G", passed away peacefully Sunday March 8th. He was born in Los Angeles, California and later raised in Buffalo, Missouri. He was an avid fisherman and photographer, good handyman, loving husband and great father. He was also world-renowned for his laugh, his love of Texas BBQ, and a firm believer when taking a trip one must always find a place to have a cup of coffee and a slice of pie.

Bobby G also had many loves. He loved his wife, Dorothy Gower, who preceded him in death in 1995. He also dearly loved his mother Irene Gower, his daughter Taunya Allen, his son Todd Gower, three sisters Patricia Dunham, Pam Gower, and Paula Eckles, three grandchildren Thomas Good, Georgia McCullough and Natasha Haley, two daughters-in-law, long-time friend and companion Wilma Smith as well as all those close to his life (too many to mention).

When you got to know Mr G, he fondly reminisced about good friends, good food and good times. He took pride of his accomplishments, like his 30 year military career, but it did not define him. However, it would not do him justice without mentioning his time as a graduate of Kemper Military Academy , the US Army Sergents Majors' Academy, his time in the U.S. Air Force and Army. He did not wax nostalgically about what he did, but more about the individuals he met and if they were "good people". He believed in not talking too much about "the action" but that he served diligently and honorably. His awards include, the LOM, MSM, ACM, AAM, JSM, VCM and other awards with added clusters. His international duty stations included Japan, France, Korea, Thailand and where ever they needed him. He was a humble warrior and one of the finest Sergeants Majors in the Army.

He has requested a private ceremony with family and friends.

I worked with Bob for a short while and he always had an uplifting word for me. A strong and gental man. At Bob's request I did a painting of a stag deer looking back at you but always felt I was really doing a painting of him.

Bob and I were both at Kemper and then served in the Army together about 7 years later. Also spent time together in San Francisco during the recruiting part of his career. A wonderful mentor and a great friend for 60 years. What wonderful memories.
