It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Ronald "Ron" Hasz, of
Scott City, Kansas, son of Ben and Della Hasz. Ron was surrounded by his family, leaving behind a legacy filled with adventure, innovation, and a profound dedication to his loved ones and passions. Born into the pioneering spirit of Kansas, Ron quickly took to the skies, learning to fly at a young age, and soon bought a red Staggerwing, marking the beginning of a lifetime love affair with aviation.
Ron's career was as varied as it was impressive, from drilling wells to maintaining and piloting vintage aircraft. His work as a well driller, aircraft mechanic specializing in vintage airplanes, and groundwater consultant took him to remarkable places, most notably, Latin America. Alongside his son, Steve, Ron embarked on extraordinary projects, including the rebuilding of an old ex-contra airplane, demonstrating not just his technical prowess but a spirit of resilience and adventure. Ron's passion also took him to Warsaw, Poland where he was one of the few civilians to be allowed into the PZL Airplane Factory. His knowledge of the inner workings of any plane he set his eyes on, impressed many across the globe.
His time in El Salvador and Honduras was more than a chapter of work; it was a period filled with profound connections, learning, and contributions that remained close to his heart. Ron's legacy in aviation and beyond was marked by his role as an engine man and pilot for renowned race car drivers Parnelli Jones and AJ Foyt in the 1960s, a testament to his versatility and skill.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ron was a dedicated family man. A father to four children, Steve, Stephanie, Suzanne and Ashley, and a grandfather to seven grandchildren, Ron instilled in his family the values of support, courage, an exceptional work ethic and the importance of pursuing one's passions. His free spirit, willingness to speak his mind, and adventurous soul were complemented by a deep love for his family and friends, freedom, and the thrill of flight.
Ron's life was a journey marked by remarkable achievements, from his early days in aviation, meeting the likes of Howard Hughes, to his entrepreneurial spirit in expanding his family's drilling company across Kansas and Colorado. His stories, like the cherished tattered briefcase from Hughes, are treasures of a life well-lived. A maverick in every sense, Ron embraced life with a fearless attitude, leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by his loving children, grandchildren, and sisters, Lavonna and Marilyn, who will miss him dearly but take comfort in the vast legacy of memories and accomplishments he leaves behind.
Ron's life reminds us of the beauty of pursuing our passions with courage and an unwavering spirit of adventure. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of those who loved him and the many lives he touched.
A celebration of life will be held March 9th from 1-4 pm, at Red Rocks Barn
in Colorado Springs, where friends and family are invited to share stories of Ron's adventures and friendship.
Fly high, Ron. Your legacy will forever soar in the skies you loved so much.
