Sandra Trice Obituary

Sandra (Sandy) Clayton Trice, 83, of 12105 Ambassador Dr. #111, Colorado Springs, CO 80921 passed away on August 9, 2017. The daughter of Mabel and Manfred Clayton of Corinth, New York, Sandra is pre-deceased by her parents, and brothers Gerry, Roger, and Manfred Clayton. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, William Trice, children Russ and Amy Trice, sister-in-law Jane Trice, daughter-in-law Sharon Trice and grandchildren Mae and Lea Trice. A curious traveler of the world, Sandy enjoyed collecting sheep and these also survive her as a reminder of her spirited nature and dependence on the Good Shepherd.

Sandy was an alumnus of Green Mountain College and Syracuse University with a Masters in Education. She was dedicated to education and taught many kids throughout her life including hearing impaired students in New York State, inner-city children through the SCEEP program in New Jersey, and the boys at The Bethesda Academy in Savannah. As a longtime member of PEO she continued to support the education of women and valued the lifelong friendships this organization created for her.

Active in the Presbyterian Church, Sandy was a firm believer in the saving grace of Jesus. This provides her family with the joy of knowing that she is now free of Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson Disease.

A Memorial Service will be held on Aug. 28, 2017 at 10:30am in The Stone Chapel at Woodmen Valley Chapel, 290 E. Woodmen Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80919. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cottey College Fund of PEO International at https://donations.peointernational.org/peo-donation-cottey.

I was recently going through some old boxes and came across a heartfelt birthday card from Sandy, sent not long after I had moved from Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church in Savannah to Bentwood Trail Presbyterian in Dallas.

She had written:
"When I first heard you preach, I felt that God has especially blessed you in this area of your ministry. Your love of God and His 'flock' and God's love for you is so special. Bill and I will miss you so much, but we know it's time. We will keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers."

Bill and Sandy remain two of my most treasured memories from Skidaway Island—always cheerful, always kind, always supportive. They were rare gems during one of the most meaningful and challenging callings of my life: parish ministry. Through all of life’s joys and struggles, they stood as those rare friends and mentors who affirmed who I am and what God has called me to do.

Though I left parish ministry over 15 years ago to serve in nonprofit work, I carry deep gratitude for Bill and Sandy’s love, encouragement, and the way their support helped shape my journey to where I am today.

Sandy was a dear lady of faith, so kind and gentle. We were blessed to have her at SIPC. We will be praying for you Bill and your family. And also rejoicing that Sandy is now at home with the Lord and free of all earthly cares.

Sandy & Bill were leaders and loved ones in the Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church and we still miss them! Sandy was one of those "quiet Angels" helping anyone in need quietly and effectively.
