Shawn Caldwell Obituary

To my brother that I miss so much. Your life was cut short but I hold you in my heart forever. I remember all the good times and you were there every time I needed help and someone to talk to. I want you to know, you did not weaken this family, you made us stronger than ever. We are brothers forever.

Thinking of you today as this is the day we exchanged vows to one another. "'Til death do us part" but I will always remember on this day. I will forever miss you and you will always have a special place in my heart.

I'm sorry I never got to tell you face to face what a role you and your family played in my life. In grade school you and Jason were my best friends. When I moved to Cedar Rapids the only thing that kept me going was waiting to see you and Jay. You may have wondered while you were here, but as you now can see, you made a difference in so many people's lives. I look forward to seeing you again.

Shawn was a good man with many gifts to give to his world. His delight was laughter that many spoke of and laughter fills one up and sends one on their way with a carefree lightness. The earth will be a darker place now that Shawn is lost to it. Loving him was easy as so many of family members and friends have written. A loving God smiled on Shawn and his wife Jennifer with a profound joy that far passed their dreams with the birth of little Katelyn. He will get a chance to guide his daughter and protect her from his place within the company of angels. Tears that are shed to wash away the sadness in his passing will cleanse loved one's to make the path clear for laughter in the coming months as memory takes us back to the man he was. The sweet Lord saw Shawn's light and He knew how good the light was and He took it to be His own in paradise.

Dear Steven, Jody, Jennifer and all extended family and friends. We did not get the EMail until Wednesday.We would have tried to attend the funeral. I can not put into words how much we it hurts and hard to understand why. We love them and have to let them go . We always want to believe we will will be called to God before our children and grandchildren God never gives us more than we can stand. I met you the night of your bachelor party. You were about to marry the woman of your dreams. You made me laugh then, as you did up until the last time I saw you. You welcomed Ashtyn and I with open arms into your family. You and I shared the same sense of humor...no one else may have laughed but we did.
Your niece loved you tons. You always had time to play with her, sit and work on her abc's or show her exactly how to draw nana and papas house. Then you and Jen made the most amazing daughter. She is so lucky to have you as her as her daddy.
Your family loved you to the ends of the earth. You were a loyal husband, father, brother and son, proud to be a Caldwell and proud you were their son!
You will be so deeply missed. You made a huge impact on every single person you knew. Forever loved, forever missed...

I am soo sorry. I know how it feels.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.

There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
