She is survived by brothers-in-law, Greg, John, Robert, Steve and sisters-in-law Becky, Cheryl and Katy. She is also survived by her nephews Michael and Andrew Zeller.
Shirley was preceded in death by her mom, dad and sister – Jeanette Zeller.
Shirley was born in Wiesbaden, Germany on August 5th, 1956, to Vincent and Gisela Elorie. She spent her early childhood growing up in Colorado Springs while her dad was stationed at Fort Carson. During her teenage years she moved with her family to Wurzburg, Germany. In 1973, while a senior in high school, she met the love of her life Carl. In 1975, Shirley and her family returned to Colorado Springs. She enrolled at Midwest Business College to study to become a legal assistant. During the fall of 1975, Carl moved from Germany to Colorado Springs to reunite with Shirley. In October of 1976, Carl enrolled in the United States Air Force. His first duty assignment was for Hahn AFB, Germany. Prior to his assignment he proposed to Shirley, and they were married on March 5th, 1977. Shirley and Carl spent three wonderful years in Germany prior to being assigned to Barksdale AFB, Louisiana in 1980. Shirley became a mother with the birth of our first son Vincent on December 11th, 1980. In 1982, Shirley and family returned to Colorado Springs for good. She was so happy to be living so close to her family, three houses down from ours. In June of 1984, she became a mother for the second time with the birth of our youngest son David.
During her maternity leave from her job at the BX at Peterson AFB, she applied for a job at King Soopers and the rest is history. She was hired in November of 1984 and her long and prestigious career began. During her career she worked at all the various departments of each store she was assigned to. Her eventual assignment of store manager was a dream come true for her. She absolutely excelled in her job because she took ownership of her responsibilities and respectfully cared for her associates. Her attention to her customers was always caring and professional. She is remembered for dressing up for each Halloween in her various costumes while performing her job duties. During the Christmas holidays she would always make her lasagna for her associates. She developed friendships with so many coworkers that were very dear to her heart. After almost 39 years with King Soopers, Shirley retired in August of 2023, as the store manager on Cheyenne Meadows Rd.
Shirley enjoyed camping, hiking and taking walks with her black labs, Ozzy, Duke and her latest lab Chloe. She loved to plant flowers each spring in her 50 flowerpots stationed all over the decks in our backyard. Her favorite time was watering the flowers when she came home from work, with the labs by her side. Shirley loved to cook, and her cheesecake was the favorite of the family. The Christmas season was one of her favorite times of the year. She loved to decorate the house which would last days of pure joy.
Shirley was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in February of 2020. She was determined to continue her job while undergoing the various treatments she endured. Her fortitude to remain focused during treatments was evident by her family and her coworkers. Shirley believed in God all her life and was the inspiration for Carl to return to his Catholic faith. Her unwavering faith in God was extremely important to her during the difficult moments she experienced.
Shirley is greatly loved by her family, friends, coworkers and those who encountered her daily at her store, she will be dearly missed. She will be remembered for her compassion towards others and her acts of kindness to those in need. She loved her two sons dearly and was very proud of them.
