Dr. Thomas Duncan Sellers, Jr. went to be with his Lord on June 23, 2024. Born on June 20, 1949 in Norfolk, VA, Duncan was a resident of Colorado Springs since December 1993. He received a bachelor's degree from Colorado College, a master's degree from Iowa State, and his Doctor of Medicine from Duke, where he also met his wife. Duncan and Susie married in June 1977.
The couple moved to Charlottesville, VA where they had their first daughter. Duncan completed his fellowship in electrophysiology (EP) at UVA in 1983 before moving to Danville, PA where they had their second daughter. Duncan worked at Geisinger Medical Center, helping to establish an EP lab, teaching, performing research, and caring for patients. In 1993 the family moved to Colorado Springs where Duncan continued in private practice for sixteen years prior to being diagnosed with Huntington's disease.
Known as one of the grandfathers of electrophysiology, Duncan took great pleasure in getting to know patients, helping resolve their cardiac issues, and supporting other medical professionals in their learning and growth. Among his biggest joys was helping Spectranetics with the invention of a surgical tool that improved lead extraction procedures. Duncan was willing to take on the most difficult of cases and truly delighted in helping make people well.
Duncan's other passions included piloting small airplanes and working on Model-A cars. From a young age, he enjoyed harnessing the wind through surfing, sailboarding, hang-gliding, glider planes, parasailing, and even kite-flying. Later in life, he shared the love of flying with his grandsons.
Duncan faced Huntington's Disease bravely and peacefully, trusting in God to carry him through. While he accepted the degeneration that came with the disease progression, he worked hard to maintain his own functionality and to forward the research on its cure. He remained fully engaged in all of life, traveling when he was able, spending time with family and friends, and engaging with his church community. He retained a grateful spirit, particularly for his wife who acted as his caregiver. Those who knew him will remember Duncan for his welcoming presence, generous spirit, and ready smile.
Duncan spent the last sixteen months of his life at Bear Creek Senior Living where he was well-loved and cared for by the incredible staff.
Duncan's family will remember him as a gentle, humble, generous, patient, supportive husband, father, and grandfather. He championed others, contributed to their growth in any way he could, and delighted to spend time with those he loved. He is greatly loved and will be deeply missed.
Duncan is survived by his wife Susie Sellers; daughter Saraah Ries (Jonathan); five grandsons, Levi, Lincoln, Lewis, Lawrence, Lennox Ries; daughter Gwen Sellers; and sister Susan Sellers (Sue McGrath).

I knew this day would come that I would see Dr. Sellers obituary-I very rarely look thru the obits but felt compelled to do so today, and now I know why...Over 25 yrs ago I became his patient thru the ER, and he literally saved my life up until the day he retired in 2010. Since then, I have never found another heart specialist in his field that ever gave me more than 2 minutes of their time. That was the wonder that was Dr. Sellers, and he's is the reason I found alt. methods of healing my heart and would not be here if not for my over 15 yrs as his patient, learning how to help my heart heal. The world is truly a better place for Dr. Sellers having been in it...My sincere condolences to the family.

I am so very saddened to learn of Dr. Sellers passing.
He was a man of great faith, a fantastic doctor and a comfort to all in his care. I truly enjoyed working with him in the CCU and ER at both Penrose and Memorial Hospitals. Dr. Sellers was a great teacher when it came to the electricity of the heart. He was incredibly talented, intelligent, patient and kind, especially when it came to the difficult cases lasting 10-15 hours in the EP lab. The medical field has lost an icon.
May the family find peace and comfort during this very difficult time. Until we all meet again, know he was a caring and loving man who changed many lives for the better! Godspeed Dr. Duncan Sellers.

You could find Dr Sellers reading his Bible on Thursday evenings if Bible study was postponed. When he wasn´t reading his Bible, you would find him going through his many photo albums, both the Bible and his family were his anchor. Such an inspiration and phenomenal patient that I will not forget. Rest in Heaven.

I knew Dr. Sellers professionally. I was a nurse at Geisinger and worked with many of his patients. I found him to be a very knowledgeable, kind and patient individual. I always respected him and thought very highly of him. My thoughts and prayers for his family.

I only knew Dr. Sellers for a few short months, but his light shined brightly. The love he had for his family was evident. I feel grateful that he shared the precious memories of those he loved with me. May his legacy continue to inspire all the healthcare workers and remind them of the reason we choose medicine. Most importantly, he was a faithful soldier to our Lord. Rest in Heaven.
