Virginia Fullerton Obituary

Virginia Fullerton, 89, a long time contributor to the Colorado Springs Community, passed away on November 18th in the presence of her many loving family members. She will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to be touched by her friendship and love. She was born June 13, 1921 in Evanston, Illinois and attended Evanston Township High School. As a nationally ranked tennis player, she played in many national tournaments. She attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority and met her husband Bruce Fullerton. She graduated from this great university in 1943. Upon graduation she married William Bruce Fullerton (deceased in February 2010) and moved back to Evanston to start a family and begin a new life. She lived and worked as a claims adjuster in Chicago while her husband served in the Navy during World War II. In 1956 the family moved to Colorado Springs where she became an important part of our community for the next 50 years of her life. She volunteered her time to many organizations in the community, including Penrose Hospital and the Colorado Springs Day Nursery, where she served on the board for multiple years. She also dedicated herself to helping her children through life by becoming a substitute teacher, brownie leader and cub scout den mother, and becoming a "second Mom" to many of her children's friends as well as nieces and nephews. She was an active member of the Broadmoor Golf Club and Cheyenne Mountain Country Club where she spent many hours perfecting her tennis skills and teaching her children and grandchildren the fine points of the game. She also was an excellent golfer. Her passion for travel took her to all parts of the world, including a trip to Africa that she often mentioned as her most memorable travel experience. In her later years she continued her love for tennis by playing in many senior national tournaments. She enjoyed playing bridge, going to book club, attending Pi Phi functions, participating in various activities with the Republican Women's Club, and spending time with friends, family and her dog Grady. She continued to have a strong affection for the University of Colorado and attended most home football games. She was a member of the Broadmoor Community Church and volunteered her time for many church activities. Words cannot express how much she meant to her family and friends. She was loved by all, and as one friend said "she was the best friend a person could have". She is survived by her 3 children, Jim (wife Barb) who live in Boulder, Colorado, Carol Myers (husband Jack) from Colorado Springs, and Tom (wife Carol) also from Colorado Springs. She also leaves 8 grandchildren (Cory, Brent, Kaylan, and Dana Fullerton, Ashley and Nathan Myers, and Brian and Amy Fullerton) as well as 5 great grandchildren. A celebration of her life is scheduled for 1:00 P.M. at the Broadmoor Community Church (315 Lake Avenue), with a reception immediately following at the Cheyenne Mountain Country Club (9 Lake Avenue). Her family will miss her dearly. Very few days will pass by without her being in our thoughts and prayers.

Mrs. Fullerton was my Sunday School teacher while Mr. Fullerton was my little league football coach. She was a great woman who I admired dearly.

I ofter thought about her as I would continue go to the Broadmoor arena to watch CC or CMHS hockey games and prior to her son's graduation from CMHS in 1971, she was a regular there.

Heaven has accepted and beautiful soul of whom touched my life when I was young.

This was my Aunt Ginny and was the lovliest person. She had a great zest for life and a wonderful sense of humor. She will be missed very much by her immediate family and by those of us in her extended family. Rest in peace Aunt Gin.

Our dear Mrs. Fullerton was a very special lady. Even though I was just the cleaning lady when I was in high school and college she treated me like I was one of the family. That was many, many years ago and she was always interested in our lives and loved us dearly. We will always remember her for the special person she was. Our love to all the family. Dave and Enid
